Japanese made class 15 machine. Takes singer type 15 bobbins and bobbin cases, 15 X1 (standard) needles, and the slide plate can usually be replaced with Singer 15 plate. I like sewing on class 15 machines, and often replace the hand wheel with a spoked one and attach a hand crank.
OK, here's a stupid question. Do hand cranks work the same way as a treadle in that once you get it going both your hands are free to guide the fabric OR do you have to constantly crank it to keep it going. Doesn't this make it difficult to sew "One Handed"?
Doug,
Thank you for asking this question. I was always too scared to ask and really wanted to know :D . Hopefully someone will answer it for us.
Yes, you have to keep turning the handle all the time, but it is possible to get used to working one handed.

Thanks, glad to be back. I'm doing great. Just got back from a mile walk. I go back to the doctor tomorrow to get my stitches out and an x-ray to make sure all is still good. I'm hoping it is. I'm having a lot of "popping" in my chest and they want to make sure nothing has slipped. Here's hoping.

You crank with your right and guide with your left. You very quickly learn to sew this way and find it's not hard at all.

No wasted time here, LOL!!! There's an old saying about moss growing or something like that and another about idle hands. In any case, I'm not one to just sit around and watch life pass me by. I want to be right in the thick of it. So, the quicker I recover the sooner I can get back to living life. OH, and get back to quilting too.

Well you guys are going to flip when you see the machine that is fixing to roll out of my studio next! Its a 66-1 Red Eye that is in bad need of cosmetic restoration and I was going to keep it for myself and use it out in the studio but I sold it to one of our lovely members and its getting a repaint.

It going to be a Hot Pink 66 with a Pearl Violet mid coat.

This should be the prettiest one I have done do far!!

So Doug how are you feeling? You must be doing pretty well to walk a mile. But are you doing it in circles in the house still? I would be dizzy if I had to do that for days in a row.

I have had a few friends who were co workers years ago that told me that they felt so much better after the surgery and felt like they were 10 years younger with more energy and pep in their step.

Billy:
I'm feeling great. I didn't realize how much better I would feel because I didn't realize I didn't feel good to begin with. No more walking in circles in the house. That got old really fast. I graduated out to the street. Now I'm a street walker, LOL!

I don't think I could feel 10 years younger or I'd practically be back in diapers. Kidding! But 10 years ago I was wild and crazy. I couldn't go back to that even if I wanted to. Hindsight and all.

I am feeling great tho, and I do have a new pep in my step. Walked the whole mile and didn't break a sweat and didn't get winded. Now that was a first.

Now if I could just get my doctor to lift my restrictions so I can get back to my sewing room. No bending over tables, no cutting, no lifting. Still have to be more careful than I want to be. I see the doctor tomorrow and hope I get a good report card.

I can't wait to see pics of your next project. It sounds awesome! Just let me know when you will be doing one (with electric, lol) in orange. My ideal color, but I bet you know that by now. Broken record and all.

Exciting news! My aunt has passed on my great grandmother's treadle sewing machine to me! She knows how much I love sewing and graciously allowed me to be it's keeper for the family. I would love to find out when it was made, but the only model number I could find was partially rubbed out. I'll post pictures below, I'd be very grateful if anyone could tell me about this machine. So far, it seems to be in close to working condition. It needs a needle, and when I work the treadle it moves the needle but doesn't really work that smoothly, it sort of catches like it might need some oil to run a little more smoothly.
