OK, I'm coming out of the closet here. I have been trying to read this ENTIRE thread and am now giving up!!! I did make it to the mid-200's though. Y'all keep this thread moving!

I do not have a vintage machine yet but am looking for (I think) a 201. I have a cabinet from MIL that I have seen with various 201's but she ditched the machine ages ago because it was so heavy. So I want to put one back in it.

I'm not sure what age of machine to hunt though. She got it in the late 40's and I like the scroll plates better. But, I was born in 1952 so it might be cool to have one my age. Then there are the Centennials.

Anyway, I told DH that this is like all the cats we have had through the years - you don't really have to look too hard as they will find us :-)

No, I have not had the time to play with her. She is the white/green cast FW 1964. Her case is in great shape, no musty smell. I got her with the attachments, book, case and some vintage needles, etc. I will take pictures as soon as I can. I am like Randa, I have not told Hubby about her so I am keeping her under wraps right now!

I am sewing on my FW garbage find. Nice little machine. I have a few machines that I am keeping out of sight ......I have a family member who likes to say to me "You can only sew on one machine at a time". What narrow-mindedness!

I have a beautiful New Home parlor that's been in my living room for over a year now, and my husband STILL hasn't noticed it!! He's even helped me move it a couple of times (furniture rearranging is a Way of Life around here) and STILL doesn't notice it!!
I guess love IS blind!

Welcome aboard, but be careful, this shop causes quite an addition to vintage machines!

Singer actually advertised the 201 as the finest machine manufactured by Singer. I have yet to get a 201, but you are right they seem to find us. I started out just getting one treadle, now I have over 20 vintage machines! The sad thing is, I have no desire to quit!

DH just called from a thrift shop in a town close by our town telling me they had a '301' for $10.00. He wanted to know if he should buy it and I told him of course buy it.
He said it's the mocha color. Other than that I know nothing about the shape it's in or whatever but he has a really good eye when it comes to machines so I'm hopeful it's in good shape. I forgot to ask if it came with a cabinet or not. I was so excited I forgot to ask anything but color.

A lovely 201 is on my wish-list. I am looking for a just-right treadle with a combination of head and cabinet that speaks to me. Oh, and I would like a 28....um...Santa??

Poor little girl came with nothing but the presser foot that you'd expect. It was very well packed. I am intrigued by the 1/4" foot with a guide as sewing 1/4" and straight is my biggest problem. I need more than one bobbin, too.

Question - Is the longer fold out piece the only difference in the 301 long bed or is the harp space longer, too? BTW, mine was born in 1956. She doesn't have a name yet. The one I'm thinking of has no rhyme or reason.

Right now I have the bobbin out and can't get it back in. I'm sure it's okay. I'm just out of practice on those bobbin locations. I think I sewed on this machine in high school so I will have no trouble. It feels very familiar.
Irishrose-I have ALOT of parts and such for 301's. Let me know what you would like and I'll see what I have. The 301 has one of the largest beds available in vintage machines. The long bed to your left was featured on this machine because this machine had so many firsts for quilting, the ability to drop the feed dogs, gear driven no belt motor in the machine not bolted to the outside. I could go on....

What do you think this machine is? A Davis?

Boy, it looks to be in pretty good shape. The cabinet looks really good in the photos. So does the machine.

I'm anxious to see it. I have a black, long bed 301 my daughter gave me, she got it at a garage sale for $2.00 and it's pristine and sews great. I just can't pass up a sewing machine that needs a home and when the price is that good, who could resist and if you could resist, why would you want to, lol
