It isn't right either,it sticks when re-assembling and thread is totally stuck in it when attempting to thread the tensioner is too tight and erratic when trying to select a tension. Do I need a new one? See photos
Thanks Jane
I think that I remember from somewhere that there is a little screw that holds the tensioner in--it is inside the face plate. Maybe if you do a google search you can get some info on that.

Also, I was able to fix the tension on my 301 by following Dave McCallum's instructions in his FW book. Push the little numbered disc, on your tensioner, in and hold it. If you peek in there you will see that there are little holes all around the numbered disc. The little silver knob in front of it has a little thing sticking out of it that fits into one of those holes. You will need to turn the silver knob clockwise or counterclockwise to fix the tension. If you think that might be the problem I can give you a more detailed description of what to do, in a PM

Billy, I need your help sir... or anyone elses, please.

What machine is this... and which version? I think it's a 301-b, right, but with the short flip up piece. aka, it's not a 'chopper' lol. But it looks like the motor is inside the machine itself...

What is this sucker worth? Will this one FMQ, drop dogs and sew great? Pictures, hopefully attached...

Is it worth $150 or what?
301b? in corner cabinet open
Hurry up and go buy it!!!!! I love my 301's but, even so, those cabinets for the 301's are hard to come by!!!

Billy.... I remember that the 201's were stated to be the 'best' singer ever did... smooth stitching... and also exc. for FMQ.

Charlee... where are you when I need you???????lol Is this like your? The one you said back about 350 pages ago... is the 201-2... the one with the biggest harp????

How much would you pay for the machine, cabinet, seat? Looks to be in good condition... They're asking $150...

Nancy

Are you able to get a lower price because of flaws in the machine/treadle/cabinet? If not that, then how?
No they are not flawed. My first treadle was at an estate sale and they were asking $100 for it. We offered $45 and got it (page 469). The second and third treadles, my 15-88 and my Singer 9w (page 265) had been for sale as a fund raiser for church and were both owned by the same lady who donated them -- both in excellent shape! They didn't sell so the gal that had to store them offered them for $100 each. We went and looked at them -- she gave them to me because she liked me and wanted them out of her garage for $100 ($50 each). My Singer 28 1898 (page 352) was found at a yard sale - I paid $65 for the whole thing with the Parlor cabinet and I have seen those for over $600 on E-Bay. My Redeye I got for $65 because someone stole the slide plate when the estate sale started (page 369) The list goes on -- you just have to be willing to wait and see if they sell or not, then offer what you are willing to pay.

Cathy.... okay so it IS a 301. Short bed extension though, right? Does that make a difference? Should I 'wait' til I find the long extension one? I love the cabinet too. What do you use your 301's for? (What are they good for). And... what questions should I ask the owner when I call her tonight about it... should I offer her $75 and hope she takes $100?

Thanks for your help... everyone else is 'away'!!!

Yes, I got a white FW in perfect shape, even the case is in great shape, all the attachments for $250. The gal that had the machine is a friend of mine and she knew I wanted one, but couldn't afford one off of E-bay. I have seen the white ones sell for $1,000 and more. I won't even bid on them. She had this one - I think it was a payment or something for some quilting she did - and she offered it to me. I told her I could only afford to pay $250 and she said it was mine!

How could I pass that up?

Nancy

What to do? Waht to do??? Happy about the bid.
Edit: I have lost it when it comes to vintage machines. Have my mom on the lookout for a FW also.
Talked with my DH. I explained that the Necchi was akin to a vintage T-Bird (which he would love to have.) He said "Just get both. What's the problem?" Actually, my problem is space in my sewing room but I will not tell him that.

I KNOW DH is a keeper. He will even go with me to help me look it over and then load it. Hoping the seller will help there b/c I geet stitches out tomorrow from carpal tunnel realignment surgery which will make lifting stuff [painful./
