Well that Okiepastor is one lucky lady. We brought home a bentwood that she couldn't get open. Inside is a 99 Blackside. It does have a silver faceplate-if anyone has a black faceplate, please let her know.

Not too many Tucker cars out side of museums. Look up the video about them - fascinating! But you know there was a lot of engineering/tooling/machine work going into the vintage sewing machines about the same time period. The mechanicals are nothing compared with now. Pretty sad I'd say. Why do you think men still advertise their old cars "runs like a sewing machine"

If any one wants an actual book about sewing machine attachments I can recommend "the Sewing Machine Attachment Book" by Charlene Phillips. It has general machine info, shank determination info and info on how to use all those fun & mysterious attachments. List price is $16.99, but I'm pretty sure I paid a bit less, maybe on Amazon?

FYI! If anyone is going to be in the Omaha area the first weekend of June!! The church my little quilt club meets at is having their annual garage sale. There is a little black Singer in it's own case. I do not think it's a FW. They want 80.00 for it. I have no idea what kind it is, but it just doesn't look as big as my 66. Perhaps its one of those 3/4 machines? According to the "expert" in my club, she says it requires a shuttle bobbin.

I don't have the money to buy it and resell it or trade it to one of you guys or anything. If you want the address to the church the garage sale is being held in, pm me.

SN AG334402 1/21/42 is a BLACKSIDE. No decals except for Singer on the head. It is crinkle black-don't recall if all the crinkle blacks were blackside.

Anyone know?

It does have a sliver faceplate. Slideplates, foot, spool pin are black. (Tommie says she would hunt for a blackside faceplate.) Anyone out there have one???

Also one acc. foot is black. It is missing one hinge .....the above information is from Tomilu this am in a PM......I could not for the life of me get that coffin case open--it was MOST frustrating!

The rest of the saga---the machine that had been sitting in a friend's closet for nearly 10 years is a 66...

And we will see what the 306K is like when Tommie and Don get to her--I was scared of the wiring as I got horribly shocked once checking out an old machine....I did find a source for needles thanks to this board, but have not ordered them yet..... Pretty scary what the wrong needle does to the bobbin case--saw pics somewhere--maybe here???

I am in the process of oiling up the Kenmore 158--which has ALL the cams plus the buttonholer plates, etc.......she does sew, but do not want to use her till she is oiled as she is VERY dry. Have to wait for hubby to take the screws out of the bottom plate--I cannot budge them a lick.

WHOPPPEEE---my vintage Vikings are home-thanks to Tommie and Don--also my old Precision. I am about to go mend jeans now that I have a free arm again that is not a wimp!

Did anyone noticed that since I found this board, the vintage machine addiction I have has escalated????? They were just sitting there in the living room minding their own business peacefully, and now they are all getting re-dos!

Are y'all SERIOUS enablers, or what? :>)

I am cleaning a Singer Featherweight. I removed the bottom plate. I have a wire that is coated with a white powder. What can I clean this off with? Should the wiring be replaced?
Any suggestions are appreciated!!

Wow.... off a few days... and WHAMMO... the great finds! The cute repaints! The interesting info/questions.

1. I have a 'Tucker' too. (Just wanted to say that). I also have an original Singer Tucker manual/user guide for it. Neat gadget.

2. Re: that old Singer 101 I found in the Library cabinet. It's a 101-4, I believe 'cause it's in the library cabinet with the drop down hing on right panel (panel hangs straight down when opened) and the table does not have the wood crosspiece between the foot - like the 101-3 in the library cabinet. I did not buy it. The whole thing has rust/scale on it. The rust isn't solid, but all the chrome metal parts are pitted - levers, knobs, bobbin winder, etc. All of it. I DID however, pick up a box of Singer parts (including the tucker and a full darner/embroidery plate/foot combo) and a 201-2 manual. For $5. The darner is blackside....too.

3. I DID pick up a sad, forgotton 201-2. There's a big spot of rust on the underside bed, and a bit of edge ware, etc. to the Japan. The stitch length lever doesn't work right either. Seems like a great machine to save for "Billy special repaint". lol.

4. ALSO picked up an "Improved White" old treadle cabinet. For free. It's missing it's irons, the top has been cut/modified and the wood is cracked in places. BUT, I have the original knobs, drawers, base, sides, cast iron triangle side extension holder, and side doors. If anyone has a need for parts to their White cabinet let me know. I'll send you pics (it's in pieces right now...).

I hear that there is a White Rotary machine and a 15 of some sort down at another local thrift store. I'll go there tomorrow... scopeing out things.
