You all make me want to treadle. I didn't get my answer - what do I use to loosen the tight irons on the Leader?
I don't know any alternative ways to unfreeze irons, so I had to use a propane torch to loosen them up. It worked. Might bubble enamel if it is painted. Then let cool and lubricate them.

The irons aren't frozen, just very stiff. I don't think I want to use a propane torch in my living room.

propane would get any rust off... not much else you could use would be good for your living room - have you oiled?

Pull it out of the car when it is still warm and see if it moves. If not oil the heck out of it and then heat. See if that works. I have a stupid Bernina that sticks pretty good - as long as it is warm it works. go. figure. Since it has a few plastic parts I'm very careful to avoid those parts with any solvent - plastic is real close to the stuck part - heat but not direct heat maybe and lots of oil. Somebody probably used 3 in 1 oil. GGGGRRRRRRR that stuff is horrid.

They do take up a bunch of space but not as much as a table and an ironing board. A person could iron a large section of quilt with out shifting. A person could iron sitting down. If a person wanted to they could just flip up the end and iron. I would put a sleeve to hold it on the end that flops down. Then put a hang down scissors & pin holder on there. Any ideas how to use it with the machine UP - cut a hole for the machine? But what if you want the machine down - how would you fill the hole and keep the insert from shifting? If you only wanted to use half the table how would the pad stay on? I posted pics of the naked table. I saw a table like this on Ebay for $200 without a top to iron on. Those tables are tough. You could park a mac truck on one. They make good cutting tables too. That back flips over the top to cover the rest of the top, down and out of the way or up to make a big table.
We painted the table legs on one and the wood part of the box black today. It looks pretty good but needs another coat. We removed the brackets to clean up. I got some quilted teflon stuff at Joann to make a top. I'll keep posting - if anybody has any ideas be sure to let me know. I have SEVEN of those tables. DH says I can keep ONE. I put them on here for sale cheap but I know I can't ship them anywhere - they are HEAVY.

OK so they are for sale - I have some nice machines on CL Indianapolis too.

The Leader is in the living room. The Universal is in the car. There's no way I can take the Leader outside. I can bring it to the kitchen because it has wheels. Neither one has any plastic parts.

No, I haven't oiled the irons. Is Koil gun oil any better than sewing machine oil? I can get that at Meijers.

I've used gun oil... you sure don't want 3 in 1 oil... It goes solid and nothing moves - if you don't have plastic parts use some kerosene on the parts that don't move if the heat didn't do the job someone may have used 3 in 1 oil or you may have rust.

I've been lurking and learning on this thread. Has anyone heard from Billy? You and your family are in my thoughts. Your generosity and talent are a blessing to all of us. Thank you.

Wow! NICE. Billy probably has hand crank parts. Is that a needle feed?
