Anything I should check on? I thought that raising the plate above the feed dogs was how it was to be done, but that didn't help so put the plate back in place and it still won't catch the bobbin thread. Not sure what to do next.
Did you have the pressure foot down? You can use the cover from the buttonholer if you have one.
Yup presser foot was down. I'll try the buttonholer cover.
Did you pull the bobbin thread to the top of the quilt? Nearly everytime I have trouble it's because I forgot!

I do think most of the decals are intact underneath. The cabinet is still at my sister's. No matter how hard we tried, we just couldn't cram it into the backseat or trunk of a little Hyundai! It needs some work on the veneer and pretty much every joint needs to be re-glued. There is something wrong with the lift, but I think it has "good bones." No pics to share yet--maybe next week after it comes home.

Serial number: FR 2623596, about 1917. I found some papers crammed behind the drawers from 1935 with information on a church and a high school in Indiana. The seller said it was her great-aunt's machine and that she had been wanting to fix it up, but just never got around to it.

Also an interesting note, I saw where the WFR with Mission cabinet was originally about $75-$80. According to an inflation calculator, it would be about $1200 to $1300 these days. Makes my $45 look good by comparison.

Now I really need to get on the ball and get some of my machine stash going and quit looking for new ones!
Bennett I envy you that cabinet...we are still looking for one out here in CA....not easy to find at all!!!

The yard sale goes from Either West Virginia Or Virginia to Georgia along one hwy and is the most fun I have had in a long time. I am going to plan my vacation around it next year! I was able to go 10 miles on it in Lewis County TN and I saw maybe 3500 vendors in that short of a distance. A lot of Mennonites were wandering around there and they had quite a few machines for sale. The prices were just unreal and like I said I am going to take my 40 enclosed trailer and several dollars and buy everything I find. I missed a couple of deals because I didnt have the cash on me at the time but they were the Boye display boxes one with half of the tubes in the thing with both needles and shuttles for $100. And then there was a really pretty JP Coats display case from the early 1900's for $75. I only brought $50 in cash because I didnt think much about the sale and had no idea of the enormous deals and all of the cool things that would be there. I had my credit cards but its hard to use them at a yard sale LOL!!

But believe me I am hurting big time today but it was worth every bit of it!!

DD who lives in NC and I would like to do that one of these years...maybe after we get into retirement in TN like we plan...we'll likely land near Knoxville due to kids and grands in NC and same in Nashville. Knox is right smack in the middle!! :-)

Once brought home, we discovered the tension spring was broken. Nothing major, found another on ebay. Now all we need is a table & belt then I will be able to give it a true test drive - after she's cleaned of course.
Okay, here's the thing. I recently purchased a manual and just received a notice from the seller that the cover had fallen off @ the staples as well as the two center pages. In leu of credit, she is willing to give me other items I may need for the machine, she mentioned pressure feet & needles, if I knew the sizes. The reason for getting the manual is because I am not having much luck finding is info on the net.
The machine has one needle with a burr on the tip, one bobbin, and one pressure foot. Any input? Desperately seeking advice as I am just beginning to collect these wonderful machines.
Thanks in advance to all
Also that manual is available free download in several locations on the net. Don't pay for one!!

Information is abundant. Join Needlebar, and go check out the Yahoo groups for the types of machines you have. ISMACS is an excellent resource too!
Hi Charlee -- I joined Needlebar a few months ago, and they cancelled my membership because "..no contributions to the community." They don't want any questions about machine repair or maintenance. They want everyone to state how they will contribute to the "museum" information on the site. They are very picky!! Not very friendly. I don't know how long they think they will keep people going there if all they want is input for their "museum".
