WOW! Lost a couple days after surgery, it took me a week to catch up. It has been fun getting caught up and trying to learn the "new" board. LOL What a great bunch of new acquiaitions you all have made. I am soooo anxious to get this arm workinf right again so I xan get to work on mine, again. I have learned my lesson, though. Dont over do! Im convinced I damaged my rotator cuff while grinding down 1896 Singer industrial and irons. Sooo worth it, though could have, and should have got it done with less injury! Keep them rescues happening!

I'm glad you are getting caught up. What model 1896 industrial did you fix up? Torn up rotator is tough.

I really do like that Glenn. Maybe I need to start looking around for old neat boxes when I do my "antique junking"

Buslady, sorry to hear about your surgery, but glad you are on the mend!

Glenn, your cigar box DOES rock. Great idea. I'm jealous - and stealing your idea the first chance I get!
Welcome to the new folks just discovering the fun of vintage machines....

Okay... I'm psyched to report my progress in the last week or so:
I got my Singer 115 treadle back together, the head totally cleaned up/oiled and re-furbed! Beautiful!!!!! I'll post pictures soon. At some point, I'm going to dismantle the irons and have them blasted and repainted... but for now... it's fine. I haven't sewn with her yet, but she's running smoothly without thread. I have to download a manual ...

So... here's another story... (takes sip of coffee): Today I'm out Garage sale-ing around town. Drive to a sale where I know they've got a Singer cabinet/machine/stool. I get there, and the poor 15-91 is half out of it's hinges, about to crash through the bottom panel of the little cabinet 50. I immediately RUSH to the rescue of the poor thing, demand tools from the poor older lady and fix the thing. Meanwhile, we (her husband, her daughter and herself) all get to talking. I tell the lady, she needs to keep her 15-91 if she's going to do FMQ, 'cause it's great for that. But no, she's moving tomorrow, and doesn't want to take it. When asked if I'd take it, I truthfully say... I need another 15, like I need a whole in my head (I have three already). (Meanwhile, tinkering with the cabinet to get it fixed to work right). Well, how much would I pay for it? Truthfully, I say.... I think it's worth what you're asking ($45) even tho the wiring needs to be redone. Would I take it? (No, I don't need another...). Do I charge by the hour for fixing sewing machines? <sigh> No, I don't! lol. So we got to talkin some more...
The more I said it was a great machine and she should keep it AND that I didn't want another...the more they kept trying to get me to take it. So guess what... an hour later, she GAVE me the machine, the attachments, cabinet and stool, and a huge bag full of buttons. I STILL do not need/want it! lol. However, I'm already planning to put my Jap. 15 clone in the cabinet, fix up the 15-91 and rewire it.... then sell it. I guess I'm now in business. ?????

So does this happen a lot to everyone who's got a lot of machines? The first 15-91 I bought for $80! Spent another $60 fixing her up, and then GAVE her to a friend to sew with. So I guess this evens things out?! Now if someone would 'gift' me with a 411G or 201K treadle.... I'd be a happy woman!
Kim, you are so fun to listen to! Yes, similar things have happened to me, but not the free part, just much lowered price; and, never one with the attachments, cabinet, stool, etc.! What a haul! There are people on here who dream of that happening to them!

Actually, I never found the second one, but who cares, lol. I pulled up and the drive was full of everything, always a good start. I started walking around, and stopped and looked at a 'table'. "Is that a sewing machine cabinet?", I asked. Now, understand that I have four sitting in the family room already, one empty, but don't seem to be able to control myself. I am sure none of you have that problem, right? "Yes, it is, but it also has a machine with it. Would you like to see it?" Sure I would. He opened it up, and I really wasn't expecting much. Long day, nothing good, discouraged, right? But he had a nice little machine in there...green metal, older machine. I asked if it ran, and it did. He got a cord and plugged it in. The owner used to do leather work, and he did it on this machine. So, still figuring it couldn't hurt just to ask how much, I did. $25. SOLD! I also bought a bag of 16 leather stamping tools I knew my gson would be thrilled to get....they aren't cheap....some fancy buttons and three pair of old ladies leather gloves. They loaded my machine up and off I went.

I don't have a manual for the machine, so I started looking on the net for an old Pioneer Precision Sewing Machine. Can't find one. I look over at it sitting there, and LIGHT GOES ON, duh Jacqueline. The machine is green, and my brain must be working in Senior Moment all day long. Picture it black dummy, lol. Picture it saying Singer across the top. It's not quite the same as the non running clone I have (well, haven't tried running the other one yet) but pretty darn close, and I know this one runs....and does leather. I will get a photo and see if I can convince the board to load it. There is a number on the body....E 5732612 and an M in a circle. Also, on the underside of the neck? the initials D.S.M. . In another spot underneath, it says TKM-6. The machine says Pioneer Precision Sewing Machine Reg Pat Off.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I am going to have a cup of coffee and try to update my brain, lol.
Auniqueview, is that your name 'Jacqueline? Congratulations on your new 15 clone if that is what is it - can't wait to see a picture!

I would use a walking foot sewing machine to sew on very much leather or heavy canvas - there is nothing worse than a bent needle shaft - ask me how I know.
Miriam, what 'walking foot sewing machine' do you use?

Well, one lady said she was holding one for an earlier customer, but did I want to look at it? Kenmore 17--, $25. Had all the attachments, super high shank stuff, so I said, I usually like older ones and sort of collect them. She said $20. I said, it just isn't what I am looking for. She said $15. I said maybe someone will come along, and if you don't sell it, you can donate it to one of our local churches that teaches sewing lessons to a group of teenagers. She said $10, please take it. I did and it sews really good to make a long story longer, and doesn't miss any of its 22 stitches it is capable of. She paid $300 twenty years ago. Go figure. The ticket was in the manual. Worst thing is I have a machine that is good enough to sew on that the next person who comes in and wants one of my vintage machines may get lucky.

Another girl has her old grandmother in law's that she didn't bring to town because her husband said no one would want it. She has my number to call me the model. All I know is green singer and old. Wish me luck.
Ok Melinda, were you and Kim garage saling together? Geeze, both of you got fantastic deals! Congratulations! When I find a machine really cheap that I really don't want, I just take it home, clean it up, get it running, and donate it to Hospice! Makes me feel good to do that!
