You could put it in one of those pump up sprayers, and then you'd have to wash it out with detergent.

The spring is a little round spring that fits over a post, with one bent "tail" going into a hole on the thread guide.

I agree with that. DH started working on my cabinet, scrubbing on it with extra fine steel wool and denatured alcohol, and on the small area he's done, it's like new!! Thanks, Glenn. And he has taken lots of pics, and we'll put some up over the weekend. Too busy till then...sorry!!

How fun, Sharon! I love sewing with a group of friends. And it really does sound like the machines are "chatting" with each other. Sometimes it seems they are in competition!!

How fun! Wish my DD or GDs had time to sew with me, but maybe some time in the future.

And Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I know I won't be on the Board tonite, so am sending Blessings now!!

So I've decided to put my dubious decorative painting skills to work...I will paint the cabinet white, because I picked up a stool at one of the thrifts that had been painted white, and I'm too lazy to remove the paint, and then add some decorative touches...several things have floated through my head... Hindeloopen (a Dutch form of decorative painting), roses maybe?, or sewing notions... have not yet decided on that part...will decorate the stool tho, to match.

What do you think? Will I be banned from the club for this action? What would be your choice of decorative touches?
Well, I love flowers, but in this case, I like the idea of painting sewing notions better. I bet it will be beautiful no matter what you choose. I do hope you take before and after pictures!

On a different topic, I picked up some Murphy's Oil Soap like you said for my "new" cabinet. It does appear to have a wood veneer on top of something (maybe press-board). I'm assuming it's fine to use the Murphy's Oil Soap on all the wood areas, right? All this is so new to me and I don't want to damage anything!

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving. I am going home from work today and Raquel will be on my table until we eat tomorrow, then back on the table until Sunday afternoon. I don't care if the kids sit on the floor to eat meals, I HAVE to get my runners quilted in time for Christmas!

No you will not be banned from the club--it is pressed wood and I do not consider it to be a thing to restore so paint your heart out on it. This type of cabinet is ideal for decorative painting. Have fun with it.

Most of these were veneer over oak. I know, makes lots of sense, heh? Anyway...use the Murphy's and do a damp cloth wipe down. You don't want to soak the wood, just clean it. Wipe it dry, and then I know you're not supposed to have to, but I rinse the wood too...again just with a damp cloth and clean, plain water.
