Be very careful and do it really quick like but it should not hurt the finish. That is why I use Kerosene because its a fuel oil and it has lubricating properties along with cleaning and it is not detrimental to the finishes. But if the decals are exposed it might take them off so I would try a spot on the backside of the machine and see what happens. It will turn kinda gold tannish looking but the Liquid Gold will hide that.

The 128 runs fine when sewing but willl not move when the bobbin winder is engaged. Help!!!

I am trying to get back into things again but it will be on a smaller scale and I am going to limit myself to a few machines a month instead of what I did last time. I am getting better so that is a good thing!!

I am hanging in there and trying to get better. I have to go to NYU in March for a 6 week study so hopefully they can find a cure for this disease or some other type of treatment that is not as bad as whats out there now. Its all going to be experimental and I am not sure how long they are going to do it for and if it works when they will introduce the drug for someone else that might have the disease. But I have learned that since I have no immune system I tend to get sick really easily and just because I had a cold last week doesnt mean I cant get strep the next week!! LOL

Thank you for the reply. I think I will give the wheelguard a quick soak and see what happens. If I lose any decals, those are small then I'll know if I can use the kerosene on the body of the machine. I assume kerosene will work in cold temps. I really don't want to use anything flammable in the house in this weather. The kitchen is too close to the laundry room with its pilot lights. I used Dawn and more SM oil tonight and I can see a glimmer of decals under the tarry junk.

So I am cleaning this Raymond and under a very rusty yucky area I came across this pic of a beaver and what looks to be a signature.... Did all the Raymonds have signatures? [ATTACH=CONFIG]306305[/ATTACH]

It's a shame she has so much rust. Also, does anyone know where I could get a back slide plate(rusted) and decals?

Hi,
Sorry, I'm not very knowledgeable on Raymond machines but admire the history of the company and the man (except the no alcohol part). The rust from the slide plate can be removed with a wire wheel and varying degrees of steel wool fairly easily. I don't believe there is a Raymond decal set on the market. Perhaps a talented artist can touch up the decals . Good Luck.
