Today while looking for tailor chalk in my one sewing machine cabinet, I came across directions for the hopping spring. Cathy had given me the spring, but I don't even remember Cathy giving me the directions to the spring that night. We had been chatting about all the darning feet for FMQ and posting the photos of the springs onto QB that I may not have noticed the directions.

Weird things do happen in the drawers of vintage sewing machine cabinets. Sometimes parts for one machine, not the machine that is in the cabinet, can be found in the cabinet drawers...which leads to the next machine- at least that is what has happen to me numerous times.

Anyhow, here are the directions to the hopping spring that was found in my Two Spools cabinet...like why in the heck would I use my Two Spools for FMQ. I think I'll blame it on the vintage sewing machine spirits...they like to mess with us.

Not finding things happens to me also. When everyone was talking about the little spring darning foot I went and looked on e bay and found one. Ordered it and got it. A few days later DH was looking in some of my sewing boxes and found one I all ready had and at the time didn't know what it was. So now I have two and want to thank you for the directions.

Another question about this Universal...(I took the motor in to work and showed the maintenance man who willingly took it home to solder the new wires). Meanwhile, I've now taken the foot pedal apart and found a broken wire there. Here is the senario...a white ceramic piece holds six coiled wires wrapped (through a hole) from one side to the other with connectors which, when pressing the foot controller down, a metal piece runs over these connectors to make the machine run, faster and faster (my assumption). One of these coiled wires was broken, black, brittle. What would happen if I just remove that wire? The rest look in great shape. I have no idea what type wire (copper?) nor where to find it. We have a small motor repair place in the next town. I'm wondering if I should pay them a visit??

That's my thought too. If it were my machine I would. So I went to work and told her that and she doesn't want to put a bunch of money into it. I told her that I'd give her what she gave for it ($10) and then I'd buy all new...motor and foot pedal. She said, by the time she's done she could have $50 in it!! I said, yup, you could....or I could!! LOL!! Thanks for your help!

Oh, I forgot to mention...the maintenance man said the motor was fried. He said when they put one bolt through to hold the two pieces of the case together, they caught some of the internal motor wires and frayed them....they in turned touched the cord wiring and damage was done...it was all black inside. So a new motor is definitely in order...might as well get both. But what about the wiring them to the machine? This one has an outlet in the case to plug the motor into and then the light plugs into it also. from under the outlet cords run to the wall outlet and foot pedal. Will sew classic know what I'm talking about?? Or is there a better way to put this together?
