That's the first one I have seen with cabinet. Most postings have been just the machine head. I have seen two of these Bernina's- they are handsome looking machines!

Laura, Was this the Free that you had with you at the Turlock TOGA? The one you were using? I don't remember it looking that badly. I remember you showing Cathy and I the worn down teeth of the bobbin wheel winder on a Free. Is this the machine? The decals are in very good condition on this Free.

Thank you for noticing my new Avator! I decided since I go by "BoJangles," it should be his photo on my Avator! That black horse is my BoJangles!

There is a place on the motor where there's a little spring is sticking up. Will that bother the machine? What do I need to ask for to get it fixed? There was a screw top that fits the area, but won't fasten down on it. And the side plate bobbin cover needs the spring and the screw to fasten it down. Other than that the little machine just clicks along so nicely and is a joy to sew with. Thanks.
Janis,

I have no idea when the first 99 was electrified. Both of mine were made in the mid-50s.

That little spring is a brush spring. Without the cap the motor will not run properly if at all. I believe Sew-Classic sell the caps and brushes. I'd buy a pair of both.
They also have the springs and screws for the slide plate.

You might try Thayer Rags for the handle on the case top.

It is! The decals really came into their own after SST. It had more going on than it looked like. As the shellac went on, it just looked better and better...now if I could find a face cream that worked as well

Laura great job with Glenn's shellac treatment of the Free No 5! Have you sewn anything with the Free yet? I made a couple quilts with my Free No 5. That was before I got the Two Spools and started using it for my piecing!

I really can not tell the difference from how I remember the machine looked at the Turlock TOGA and the second photo. For me, it still just looks the same. So, I will just have to take your word that it is much better looking.

Since I don't like working with chemicals, I'll be skipping this process. For me, just the use of the sewing oil to pretty up the machine works well enough to make me happy. The costs is lots less too.

Nancy, I still have never used my Free that I picked up for free.

On that same day that I picked up the Free, I picked up a Graybar. After researching Graybar and National, I realized that the one machine that I couldn't identify on CLs was the National Two Spools. That machine had sat for at least a month before I picked it up. I was too intrigued with the Two Spools that the Free got moved aside. I used the top of cabinet to hold sewing items and the only bobbin that it came with went to the Singer VSII. Interesting how one machine can lead you to another machine.

Glenn, You might have not seen this thread/post. Looks just like your MW machine. One of the photos show the threading.
