I have several antique stores here who have vintage machines for sale and they want 200 + for them and I tried to bargin them down and there answer was there is a QB member who will want it and we will not lower the the price. And yes a QB did buy one of them here. Demand Demand or what they think the demand is. I know it is unfair and I don't like it but this is a democratic socioty at its best. Free enterprize.

The Q B is not the only members looking for the vintage machines. For every QB wanting a machine there are three business people who want to seel them a Vintage machine at top $. There are many sites on the hunt for Vintage Sewing Machines and sites that sell these vintage machine at high dollar prices. Ebay is a reflection of what people will pay, just look at what we quilters did to the FW!!!!!!
That is why I shop for the free or cheap machines.

There are two guys here in the Bay Area that are always posting vintage machines that they have cleaned up for sale. For the past two years, the same machines keep rotating around on the CLs. The machines are pretty, but I would never pay those prices for them. I like to find the $10-$50 deals at yard sales.

The 301 is a slant shank machine, the walking foot for the FW won't work as it is a short shank machine.

I am like you only go for the cheap machines. But I know people who pay big bucks for the old machines. Not me

We are only dealing with sewing machines, and sometimes overpriced!

I agree, Annamaria! We all find bargains here and there...if someone puts a Heads Up on here for a particular person, well, those ads are posted online and anyone can see them!! Who knows how the eventual buyer sees the ad? I am certainly no mind reader....

Anything for sale on a public posting is fair game....if someone is looking for a particular machine, they just need to be doing their homework and really looking. That's what I did to find my 2nd Davis....I got it for a fair price, and had to drive a distance to get it, but it was what I wanted.

As Glenn said, this is a Free Enterprise country. Supply and demand will always set prices...but there are literally millions of machines out there, and new ones show up every day. Let's not get all hung up on this...we'll all be looking over our shoulders soon to see who is sneaking up to grab our machines!

They may be just sewing machines, but yes, there are a few people that will mow others over with no consideration to get a "deal" or for whatever reason. I post links to CL machines too, machines I don't know anyone is interested in. But I've just learned to PM certain folks with the links or e-mail them privately to make sure others don't elbow them in the face to be first in line. Sadly, it's happened here:< And others do the same for me.

I didn't mean to try to tell you that you did something wrong. You are entitled to free speech in America :> We just need to be careful. Eyes are everywhere. Am I paranoid? Maybe, but a few things have happened here on this forum that make me that way.

There is history here on this forum that you don't know about! Enough said.

If Nancy says, " I want a red machine." Well, I'll e-mail her or PM her because I know she's had some not nice experiences with lurkers and machines she was interested in, here. I'm not getting hung up I'm just suggesting that if you know someone in particular is looking for X machine and you see it on CL, then tell them privately.

Yes we don't need to be looking over our shoulder and who is trying to out do us but we do need to understand the history here.
