I am nearly 20 pages behind here, but have to sneak in a comment. We had a family reunion this weekend and as we set the camper in place my DH cousin came over to me and asked if I wanted another machine. I said, well, if it's an interesting one, I could be talked into one. It belonged to his great grandmother (would also be my DH's great gramma, too) and he decided to restore it, so after many years in the barn and then the machine shed, he got it out to work on it. Sand blasted the irons and hung the foot pedal to dry and it caught the wind and fell to the concrete and shattered! He was sick and so am I now. (The largest piece looks like a star pattern). It's a Domestic coffin top, has the shuttle and all the paper work. He made a copy of the manual because of it's fragility and the warranty dates, 1881 to their great gramma!! The cousin said it was so very rusty so he had it all sanded down and primed to keep it from rusting, but of course even the silver parts are primed. The presser foot handle is on the left side of the "nose", on the faceplate. It's so interesting and I'll have it repainted black and will hunt for a Domestic logo to place on it. Everything turns, has a metal pitman, of course, I need to find a foot pedal/plate for the treadle and a belt.

How cool that you're getting (have gotten?) a family machine! Even with all of the...modifications.... I'd love to have a family machine like that!

I was so excited to find one I was so concerned about the reverse button I forgot to look at the treadle or any thing else. It does have an extra shuttle and some strange attachments, two long bobbins and 4 short ones.

It does have an extra shuttle and some strange attachments, two long bobbins and 4 short ones. The needle plate is scared very bad, but in the light the picture of the needle looks very long like an old new home needle.

I just went to the Davis group to see if I could date this machine but no luck.
It says to down load any thing you want now, as they are closing the site as of July 4th.

for my sewing room. except, on feet and not wheels, because it doesn't need to go anywhere. Anyone have a really good fabric storage/cutting table solution they would like to share?
So far i will have a bench for wood working and machine repair that is 7 feet long, some kind of cutting table with storage under it, room for my BEAUTIFUL ( not ugly! sturdy! ) 31, my davis vf, and my Singer 201 to all be set up and open at all times. need to figure out some kind of earthquake proof shelving for machine display/storage. I will also have a sink for fabric dyeing, fleece washing, and yarn/fleece dyeing. It's a 1 and a half car garage that I'm having finished for my self, just to give you an idea of size. Right now, I have half the spare bedroom, and you can't turn around in there. So, anyone with a space they like, what do you like about it? What don't you? what do you wish you had done different?
