We who are members of Treadle On, came up with that term. I think its a great description. I've preformed that operation on 2 of my Singers, the 15-90 and 237. Maybe the 306W will get a motorectomy, gotta get cleaned up before that happens. The wiring looks kinda scary, I don't have a electric cabinet to put the 306W into anyhow.

I know what you mean about the treadles. Treadles are still my first love, but it is just so hard to house them! I said I'd never separate my machines from their treadles, but I have started doing just that! I can't keep all the treadles! I now have 3 treadle cabinets in my storage unit, but their machine is on a shelf in my sewing room! One of the treadles I don't have is a White! Nice find! I would like to eventually have a treadle from each manufacturer! Did I say that? Oh geeze, I HAVE to stop!

You'd need a museum like Cindy has.

most of the time they are interchangeable. The exception is a zigzag machine that uses this style needle won't work with the non-scarfed versions.

Yes, I will be there on the 16th. The needles I gave you last month were a gift. No payment will be accepted.

Cathy
Thank you Cathy for the needles! Hummmm, that is interesting about the needles and a zig zag machine?

Well, yesterday I gave a friend of mine the Singer cabinet that my 127 Sphinx came out of. She brought up her 306W so we could do a test run to make sure the 306 fit in the Singer cabinet and everything would line up. Well, it fit perfectly! We didn't even have to adjust the treadle belt length! The hinges lined up perfectly, the machine fit like it was made for that cabinet, just like my 319w fits in the 66 cabinet! None of you should be afraid to get a Singer cabinet to put your 319 or 306 in! The only problem is folding the machine down. They won't fold down because the head is much thicker than either a 27/127 or 66.

Caroline, this proves that your cabinet was either not a Singer cabinet or someone had modified it before you got it because your 306 should have just sat down in the cabinet and fit like they were made for each other.

I was so excited for my friend. She has been waiting for a treadle cabinet to put her 306 in so she can treadle decorative stitches!

Sharon I have a museum, but it is only an 8' by 20' ocean going cargo unit. I have painted it to match the house - it sits away from the house - so it actually doesn't look bad. I have several treadles/sewing machines in there, but it is full! I gave one treadle cabinet away yesterday. The cabinet was in great shape so I gave it so a friend to make room in my little sewing museum. I am giving away two other treadle cabinets today to a guy who refurbishes them into either an end table or redoes the cabinet if it is in not too bad of shape. They both need new veneer and I am tired of redoing cabinets. I need the room so I can re-finish the Adler cabinet!

Oh Sharon, thank you for your answer about your Pfaff 60 actually coming to you as a treadle - and the information about the class 15 bobbin it uses. I find this interesting because the 60 is shaped and looks very similar to my 260 and 230.

Hey folks,

I thought that I would let folks here know that I am going to be heading up to Mizkaki's place in Orangevale on Saturday the 16th for a EARLY Machine trade and play day.

I am bringing ALL of my pre-1890 machines (2.75 Howes, W&W 8 and W&W 12, White Model A) for us to go over, discuss, plan repairs, compare the different early technology and approaches used to try to make a better machine. I will be trading and buying bits and pieces as well...

Since I am trying to focus my collecting on 1800's machines, In addition to cash, I will also be bringing a few of my "later" machines like a White FR Portable, the New Ideal "D" I just got, possibly the blue "Sew-Mor" 15 clone, the Sew-Rite (Betsy Ross) electric TSM and my Singer Model 20 Electric TSM, all for TRADE ONLY.

I prefer 19th century RUSTY machines)

Basically we will be doing everything with these machines except actually sewing a project.... (Test sewing will be permitted..hehe)

I am planning to get up there as close to noon as possible so that we can have a shot at being done in time for folks to be able to go to the "Ladies night out" that evening.

Anybody else interested in joining us?

I would love to join. I would enjoy seeing your machines Steve. I don't have anything to trade at this point though. I recently picked up the American B-HO Sewing Machine when we were in Minnesota (last patent date in 1873). I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Would anyone like me to bring that over? The below picture is only the machine and stand but I do have the coffin top as well as a few goodies in a bag.

Since I need to cross those mountains, my attendance will be dependent on the weather.

Judy what fun that machine is going to be to sew with! Are you going to re-finish the cabinet?

Well, I gave two of my treadle cabinets away yesterday (kept the machines) to a guy who makes it his job to re-finish or remove and re-do the treadles into little tables. The two I gave away needed new veneer. Since I have done several cabinets, I just didn't want to tackle those. I needed the extra space!

I also found a home for my White Rotary Electric Crinkle Embossed Black machine. That one had a friction pulley motor added, which I am not fond of! It will be loved more it its new home!
