Well we're all going to have to keep on guessing. I emailed the Stoewer museum in Germany and they don't know either. Apparently that decal doesn't tend to turn up in Germany, they think it was put on machines for export. My money is on King Solomon.

Well, I have looked through all 9 pages and have not seen one Brother. This one was was manufactored in 1956-57. I bought her at an estate sale last weekend for $10.00. The lady's father passed away and they were cleaning out the house. She told me she learned how to sew on this machine. I cleaned her up, plugged her in and stepped on the pedal and got a speeding ticket!! I have never seen a machine sew this fast and so quiet! I have heard zippers that are louder! On top of all that...she's so purdy!! (as we say in Texas)!

OOPS! I didn't get the first picture right, the serata hand crank will follow the FREE No.5..I had two pics of the case.The SERATA is my 2nd vintage sewing machine. My first one is in my avatar. I am having trouble finding it in my pictures. The other pics are of the one I just brought home from my Dad's house. I didn't even know that he had it at his house. I was already out of the house when my Grandmother had passed, and did not know that my Dad chose the machine that had belonged to her mother...the one I had wished I could find. I never thought my Dad would even know where to find out what had happened to it when my Great-grandmother passed over 40yrs ago when I was a teenager. I have already promised it to my youngest DD, as she is the only one of the two that sews. {when I am done with it..lol}

Great to see another Serata!

The winner of the quiz on the Mystery Vintage Machine is Vintagemotif, who battled her way to the answer.

So far it's been all German machines from me. Now I can put the flags out for a machine made in England, hurrah hurrah, the Vickers Modele de Luxe, made by the company that built the Spitfire. The machine was largely copied from a Frister and Rossmann vibrating shuttle, so you can sew in reverse if you ever start to forget that the German designs had the edge over Singer. There's a very interesting history of Vickers machines on the Sewalot website.

The machine is probably 1920s, but I haven't yet found anywhere I can check the serial number.
