I have more pictures of the manual but since they are drawings of how to do sutures with this device i will not post them where folks may be squeemish
hey steveh, in most cases when we got a new machine we try them and sew on clothing materials as much as we can. i wonder how you will try it out then to sample the stitches ?

I have made an arrangement with my local butcher to get a section of pig side with skin on. (funny thing is he asked if I was learning how to tattoo, I said, "no, sewing.." he didn't quite have the guts to ask....

Oh.
My.
Gosh.

You are not even kidding, are you?

Wow.

Nifty machine - can you sew paper, etcetera with it? Would love to see it in action, perhaps minus the pigskin... ;-)

I'm pretty keen on it Sharon, but it's missing its slide plate. My dear friend Amelia told me today she can probably find me one so I'll be giving it a workout some time soon.

I hope you can find a slide plate for it,Mike. The only thing my machine was missing was the top cover for treadle cabinet. It only came with one bobbin, was able to find more locally.

Here are some pictures of my vintage machine. I don't know the story behind it other than my mom got it at estate sale when I was a kid. The couple had been friends with my grandparents. My mom had told me that it was in working order. A few years before she passed away, she found a leather belt for it. I'm not sure how to size it, since it's too long.

the process in general goes like this:

Wrap the belt around the track it is supposed to follow
Take up the slack (not TOO tight) and mark both ends at the same location
trim both ends
punch(ice pick.awl, singer tool) a hole in each end CAREFULLY about 1/8" in from the end
insert link staple (NOT a regular staple, my LSMG carries them)
close staple
put belt on machine
begin cussing(working)

Thanks! Sounds fairly simple. There is a "staple" in one end, which must be the staple link you refer to.
