Hello Quilting World..my question is does anyone know anything about Webster Sewing machine??? I have one that has been in the family a really long time but dont know the history about this machine..mine is in real good condition still working, no manual...but would like to know some history about this machine...only does straight stitch...I found a picture on line that looks like mine...this machine is real heavy..and is in a hard case..would love to know something about this machine...Thanks for the help...Nanda

I had never heard of a Webster before.....looks like a good one! Google "Webster Sewing Machine" and there may be something on your machine. Good luck on your search and have fun with it!!

Looks post war Japanese - maybe some kind of badged machine. I think I've seen similar White machines. It isn't a 15 clone - the tension is on the side on the clones. Is the tension all there? It should clean up nice. Use a bit of Bar Keepers on the chrome and see if that make you smile. Muv has a good video on Utube for cleaning up an old machine.

I have one that is older than yours. I'm trying to find one that I can date. Mine is a portable electric machine, in beautiful condition but I haven't tried to use it yet so I don't know if it works. One web-site I found mentioned "Brother" machine. Maybe they bought out the Webster machine.

All about Webster sewing machines.
The Canadian Sewing Machine Company Ltd was based in Hamilton, Ontario and run by inventors George Webster Jr. and John F Webster with C R Smith as Secretary and Manager. Machines were shipped to Canada Sewing Machine Company's European office and depot at 46 Wood Street, Liverpool where the manager was R S Daville, aboard the Steamship Caspian and other steamers.

In addition to the Empress of India model, the company apparently also produced The Webster and Webster's Improved Sewing Machine.

[ATTACH=CONFIG]432498[/ATTACH] This is the Webster machine I have. All the parts seems to be here. It came in a hard, carry case. I found it at a yard sale. I found an instruction booklet on Ebay. According to what I could find on the internet this machine probably dates to 1920's.

[ATTACH=CONFIG]432499[/ATTACH] Back of my Webster machine. Since this machine doesn't have a handle for turning the wheel, I think it's more like the Singer sewing machine made in the late 1940's. It also has a round bobbin.
