Western Electric with bendwood case
I recently purchased this Western Electric sewing machine from shopgoodwill in MO for $25. Was able to pick it up at the store to avoid shipping charges. They said it didn't work. I knew the motor was missing, but loved the case/foot pedal and I asked if the bobbin shuttle was with it (it was). It does work and makes a nice stitch. I would like to find the missing front slide plate and also an original motor. Photos I've seen show a silver motor that swings under the arm when not in use. If anyone knows where I can locate these items, please contact me.

Nice machine! I'm partial to National's. The plated swing away motor that you speak of, is often labeled Hamilton Beach, but you would need the entire swing away pivot arm with it's spring.

You may be more able to find one of these motors[ATTACH=CONFIG]475417[/ATTACH] this picture is the before it got rewired... perhaps you could post a picture of the backside where the motor would mount??

Like oldsewnsew said - your machine is made by National, so you can look for replacement parts from other National made machines - they liked to put a wide variety of names on them. I have two like this, but one is a newer version with the motor housing attached to the machine, and the other was set up for treadle use so didn't come with the motor.

Or you can do what i do too often. You buy its more complete twin which is on ebay. And then you have TWO, but only half of them need a motor so you then look for a handcrank or treadle base for it and soon ypu cant get in the garage!!

when I got up this morning and saw that motor and manual listed on ebay, I thought whoever listed them was reading quiltingboard to know that someone was 'needing' those items. I am watching them. I also saw the green western electric machine listed.....too far away for pickup. I didn't photo the back of my machine, but it has two holes (1 above the other) that I assume is for mounting the motor.
