Post What do you know about these machines?

I have found these machines and would like to know if they are good ones or tend to have problems. I am considering them if I can get them cheap enough, if they have potential.

White model 1563
Kenmore model 29, 148.293, J-A22

Thank you!

You can see the White in action with this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIxoEX4I3nc . I have a White 2334, a two tone beige that's a simple zig zag. The more I use it the more I like it.

It is a pretty machine, and from the video it seems like it works fine, but it is hard to really tell from a video. I wonder how it compares to other, good, vintage machines...

I would be using these machines for piecing.

There is also a Pfaff 130 that will need wiring, which makes me pretty nervous. I also expect it to go for more money and it may be out of my price range.

Either of those machines should be a solid workhorse. Assuming nothing is damaged, any issues would likely be solved by a good oiling.

The kenmore should cause you no grief, pretty simple and straightforward, looks like maybe high shank attachments though. The White, good that you can select needle position, not universally true for zig zags. I had one White that frustrated me so I got rid of it, but I also have one very similar that runs very sweet.

So far my preference for piecing has been a straight stitch machine over a zigzag machine every time. Maybe I'm using the wrong zigzag machines.
I'd get the White just because I like the color but I'm guessing they're both good machines.

Thank you, folks. As a new vintage addict I really appreciate your input.

I like them both. Consider what you're going to be using it for. Making clothes, zig zag will be needed for finishing seams. If you're doing straight quilting then straight stitch is the standard stitches you'll need.

But I love the White's color!
