PLEASE help me!! I have a Singer Featherweight Model 221 Serial# AD545177 that I purchased several years ago. She is my dream machine and was in very, very good condition. To make a long story short, she got knocked off the table that she was sitting on. It broke off part of the cast metal right rear corner. It's the area where the right rear bumper ring is located. I am just sick over it. My husband wants to glue it back on with super glue, but I'm not sure that that is the way to go. Any suggestions on how to repair this? Will the break and repair affect it's value? Someone please tell me I have not ruined my dream machine. I appreciate any help and comments.

Any break/repair is going to affect the value of a machine. I'm so sorry this happened to your baby, and to you!

The body of the machine is aluminum, and super glue is not going to hold very long, if at all. Check with your local hardware store for a glue that will hold on aluminum.

I've had good luck with JB Weld. Touch up with black when dry and won't hardly notice it's been repaired.

Oh no! Im so sorry. My dh is a mechanic and excellent welder. I know welding aluminum is tough and takes special equipment but it can be done. I will have him look at my machine and see if he thinks someone at a machine shop could do a good repair that will be long lasting.

Did you plan to sell it? If not, then try not to stress too much about the $ value. If she's your dream machi e and still runs perfectly, you've still got the most important value.

Welding is a better repair but with the heat you'd have to redo the paint and decals on the bed. A welder wouldn't have much use for JB Weld but it is good stuff.

I've used JB Weld on a couple of items, works great.... If the pieces fit back together perfectly, I'd just use a perm. black Sharpie pen to color the edges. Glad it didn't affect the machine working, just shows you how tough our little FW's are!!!!!!!!
