That machine is one of my favorite Japanese ZZ machines. It's not overly simply, the controls are somewhat complicated but when everything gets set right it makes even more stitches than what I had on the felt sheet in the pic. I didn't have it totally figured out when I did that one.

I've got my eyes out for a replacement left side cam stack though. They are plastic and there is a chip out of one pattern. That machine follows the cams so precisely that it actually shows the chip as regular repeating missing stitches.
I doubt if I'll every find such a cam stack, but I'm watching for one.

Joe, Simply astounding about it following the chip as a regular repeating missing stitches. I doubt a new plastic wonder would even still sew with a chip. I only have a couple of vintage machines that do a ZZ stitch - most of mine are straight stitch only which is okay with me. Buried in my machine is a Kenmore with lots of cams and 2 Necchis both of which require cleaning and oiling - not to mention digging out!!

I've lost count of the machines we have that do decorative stitches. Some with built in cams like the Aldens and Singer 401, 500, 4622A, and others with removable cams. We keep looking for others with different patterns too.

But the truth is I use my SS machines far more than the ZZ machines.

Joe forgot about the 401s and Rocketeers that I have with cams. Again, need finding, cleaning, lubing and such. I mainly use my 301 for almost everything.

Me too, but aren't they fun! I'm downsizing now and have e.g. a Kenmore 352 with cams for sale, one Dressmaker, sold a Kenmore 740 w. cams. And haven't begun to use them all. Just sold a Kenmore 158.1803 with monogrammer and great cams......ducks and other cute ones. And then there's the Elna SU 62 with it's 60-some cams I've acquired! And haven't begun to use them all but can't quite part with them yet. My faithful Necchi Supernova Ultra and SN Julia with many cams too. I think the Elna cams have the biggest variety with ducks, sailboats, and lots of cute ones. The nice thing about all these vintage beauties is that they're almost all with metal insides and will probably last forever! And, like Joe, the cams don't get used nearly enough. But they're fun!! My DIL has several Singers with cams, 401, 316G and others.

I prefer cams to cam stacks or electronics - they are usually a fairly simple machine.

I think I need them. I have a Dressmaker just like the one pictured and I don't have any cams for it. Would you advise. I want them it noone else has claimed them. Thanks. Please let me know.

I use to have a Kenmore in a cabinet that took cams,wish I wouldn't have given it away now.but I needed the room so I gave it to a friend that use to sew she just got rid of it even though she said she wanted it
