Default What model Singer is this?

I remember learning on a beige Singer, that could Zigzag but there were no cams involved. It was in a case, it weighed about 45 lbs. I think it is this one (I should know, as I spent many hours in front of it) but I gave it up before I became a vintage machine enthusiast. I remember the foot pedal became so hot I would sew with shoes on...that was when I put it to the curb and bought a newer machine. Does anyone know the model number of this machine in the picture?

Could it be a Fashion Mate--I bought a new one in 1970, a real workhorse but finally bit the dust while I was making daughter a silk prom dress years later. No cams, just did straight stitch and a zigzag--not sure of model number though.

I agree, the one pictured looks like a 177. Here's what a 237 looks like:

I've seen the 237 in white, beige or gray.

It will treadle. Nice machine, oil it up well and should sew.

If you have the serial number, you can call Singer toll free at their Consumer Affairs to find out. 800-474-6437

A few years ago, I called them with my serial number and they told me within minutes that my Singer Treadle was made on August 27, 1913 in Elizabeth, NJ and that 50,000 were made of that model.

Don't call anymore. They recently gave up providing the service. Look up serial numbers on ISMACS.net .
