Smile What price for a singer 221 weatherweight

I have a Singer Weatherweight 221 made somewhere in the early 40's. It has been used hard but is still in great shape as it was well taken care of. I have the original case, instruction book, many of the special feet, 8 original bobbins and original cord. I have purchased a 1/4 inch foot and a walking foot. I don't have any idea what I should get for it and I don't want to cheat myself or the person buying it. Any suggestions?

first, check the rules here about making such offers.
you could browse places like ebay & see what people are asking- but then you also need to watch & see what they actually get.
location matters - what may sell for under $100 in one area may bring in alot more than that somewhere else.
check local shops, guild, see what people have paid for theirs. i know a lady who picked one up in GREAT SHAPE---not *used hard* for $75---i know another lady who paid over $500 for hers- in alot less shape...value is as dependant on condition as it is on who wants it-what it is worth to them...some people will hold out a long time for a good deal- some will pay most anything for what they want.
you say it was *used hard* you may want to try to locate ads with machines close to the condition of yours-
you could browse through the vintage machine topic here on the board & see what owners here have paid- what kind of deals they have found- that would give you an idea of what you could ask- though not really mean that's what you would get- when you meet the (criteria) to list here on the board someone may show interest- but ebay & craigs list are probably where you need to be checking---and locally- meeting & talking to people who own them will help you- and if you can show it to them they can let you know the pro-s & cons & condition issues of your machine.

What kind of walking foot do you have for it? If it is one of the original that is AKA "the Penguin" that has great value. The basic Feather Weight can run from $75.00 to $350.00 depending on what people want. Most feather weights do not come with a walking foot.

I've paid anywhere from $50 for one that had to be totally revamped and on up to $300 for a white one in mint condition. One thing people want to know is if there is a bobbin CASE ( $50 to replace ) and a manual and what attachments. The more info you give, the higher price you should be able to get.

I have the exact same machine, and love it. It had hardly been used when I bought it at a flea mkt. An elderly couple brought it in, not knowing their popularity. I happened to call the same day. The mkt. had it totally re-conditioned, and I paid $500. for it--that was 9 yrs. ago.
My tech. said the price fluctuates a lot--as another person just said here. My best idea would be to have it appraised if you are wanting to sell it.
    I love mine!

I have two in excellent condition with case, key, manual, attachments, oil, and grease..... paid approximately $300 for each one..Great buy for me.
I have seen some sad machines with no extras go for $400-$500...
Toe each his own as far as price of a Featherweight is concerned....

I have a white one in near mint condition with all the extras that I picked up at a garage sale for 90.00 earlier this summer.

My darling daughter paid $500 for mine but it was born in my birth year - 1936. Bought one for herself paid MUCH, MUCH more.
