I am so excited! I just purchased a White Rotary Treadle Machine Serial number 2575921. It comes with the book, a box of attachments, bobbins. The cabinet is in great shape. The machine needs a good cleaning and oiling. The owner said they had just reinstalled the belt but it isn't on correctly because when I tried to move the treadle it caught.

Now I need to get it dated and learn to take it apart and clean it. As well as how to user it.

Best to stick to the oiling and cleaning rather than taking apart, unless something is broken. Can't say I'm real familiar with Whites but I believe they take a 20x1 needle or some lower a 15x1.

I know those whites inside and out at this point in life Ha ha ha ... That on ehas been refinished and looks preety good, it very hard to find one that still shows it's red and green in there decals....
it looks like your missing the back piece on the cabinet and the front piece. I think on that cabinet under the top there should be what looks like a wire loop / belt guide if that get missed it will kick the belt off, also people often get the bellt in the wrong hole at the flywheel..

unless the hand wheel has already been remove, it will take a puller to get it off, don't hammer it off, whites are very easy to bend there crankshafts .....

with the belt off and spin the hand wheel it should freely turn over 3 x's with one spin by hand,, if it has any sticky spots.. take the bottom end apart clean and polish all rotating points..

There white FR's where one of the best ever made ... they turn backwards from a singer teh bobbin threads back wards from a singer .. There is a adjustment for the cable that hold the machine up,, make sure it's not real tight. the cable can and will break

Oops, takes a standard 15x1 needle. Think my White VS took the 20x1.

This is what the machine looks like when it is closed. Is there anyway to remove the machine from the cabinet for cleaning? The way the machine goes up and down in the cabinet seems to hide all attachment points.

the pic is to small but i can see the door , I have that cabinet and the one that Treadle base mounts under the cabinet. On each of those, there is a screw on piece between the drawers, then a hinged drop down door.

to remove it kick the bellt off the flywheel, and then off the hand wheel,, right below the boobin wider at the conrer of the base is a lever push it side ways and tilt the machine to the rear.. theres two hinges under the base , you'll see those,, on the base is a set crew at each hinge, loosen those about 3 turns. The machine will slide off the hinges...

your machine has been cleaned in the past,, be very carful on these whites decals,, more so than a singer,, even quick rudding using singer oil will take off there red and green,, dish soap can be just as bad as this go off ..

I get confused about the si e of needle for these White Rotary VS's. Here is mine and I'd like to know if it's a needle 20x1 or a 15x1. I'm very uninformed about these needle si es. I'd appreciate some help in this area also. Mine is a FR 2569691.

Looks like the Rotaries and some of the vibrating shuttles use 15x1.

remove the bobbin plate tilt the machine back remove it's bobbin ect ,, so you can see the hook,

use what ever needle you have,, make sure the eye of that needle goes below the hook. if it only half way, then it won't work.

.often you can just lower the needle at the clamp, be sure you have it tight if you try that ,, not just finger tight,,

then thread it and rotate again ( backwards rotation ) again watch the hook, you'll see the loop form and the hook pick up the loop..

Thats the $70 timing the shop does , LOLOL ok they wipe it off and dump oil on.

Thats a FR and eveyone I have had took a 15x1

I learned that my machine was manufactured in 1917. I am still waiting on the new belt to arrive. There was actually a needle in the machine with 'white' stamped on the shaft. I still have to finish cleaning the shuttle, shuttle race and pressor foot. Then put it all back together. haven't polished the metal yet. I started to take off the face plate and clean in there. However, then I saw (I think on Treadle on) a tutorial about taking it off and that some part shifts when you remove it. So I got scared about my ability to put it back together and decided not to take the face plate off. I will just give it a good oiling.
