Default wipe before primer to clean off oil

I am going to do some touch up spots on a Pfaff 11. It has some nasty chips and rusty spots. I have the primer and paint but when I cleaned it I used oil to wipe it down. What should I use to clean off the oil before the primer?

Mineral spirits is safe around japanned finishes but leaves an oily residue. I haven't had any trouble with paint sticking because of it though.
Acetone might be ok. I haven't tested it.
Alcohol and lacquer thinner will both dissolve shellac.
I'm not sure about Naptha, I've never used it.

I have used lighter fluid (Naphtha) on black Singers with no problem. I did not leave it set on the paint very long. Dampen a Q tip with lighter fluid and only swab the spot to be painted.

Ok sound fine. Is all lighter fluid the same stuff? I've never bought it before. Like is the stuff you fill a cigarette lighter with the same as what you use to light a Bar-B-Q?

You can also buy Naphtha at the hardware store in the paint section.

Not if you live in California. They replaced it with some crappy substitute.

In that case, you'd likely have to read the labels. Dave McCallum recommends Naphtha - the Ronsonol brand is what he uses but according to this link - it no longer contains Naphtha and I think Dave's video is older than 2010.

Well, in normal places you can. California just loves to be different.
