Thanks Lori for your comment. I cut rectangles 2" x 3.5" from many lights and darks. I stitched across the diagonal to form the angled join between 2 sets of light/dark and one set dark/dark and then trimmed off those pesky half square triangles. Joined the 3 units together with dark set in the middle. Then make 3 more units the same. join them and you have the block. I am planning to use the triangles as well to make a Welcome Banner I spotted at a show recently. I have so many from other projects as well. I hope this helps.
