Sounds like you are getting some good suggestions. I have done many FMQ quilts with my 9"throat space on my Janome 6600. It works well for me without being too large. Of course, the larger throat space the bigger the machine will be. I guess it depends on how much FMQ you plan on doing in your future. Good luck on your selection and hope it works for you.
