I would love to have the Sharon Mastbrook design wall. I know that it is no longer on her site. To those of you that used it, my question is: Was it a download from her site and could you possibly forward it?

I just got off the phone with Brenda Papadakis and she has not heard from Sharon either [knows her personally and will keep trying.] If it is possible for Dotty to transfer her download to someone else it is ok according to Sharon's stipulations for us to do that so long as we give Sharon credit for the production and use of the design wall [legally speaking].

Sorry ladies - have had some personal stuff going on and DJ has been lurking on back - or medium?? burner. I still have the applique blocks for this week to do and realize I haven't posted much. I have tried to read your posts - no one seems to be hurting [for my help anyway!!] I did do B3 a little differently & found a way to save fabric. Will tell you briefly but dont want to get anyone confused! I actually made a 4-patch using 4"blocks. Used Karen Kay Buckley's perfect bigger circles to mark a circle 1/2" larger than the finished size [1/4" seam all around] and cut this out of the middle. I then took an extra 1/2" seam in the remaining outside "frame" of the 4-patch, making the inner hole small enough so that I could applique the circle I cut out in the right spot If this confuses anyone please put this part of my post totally out of your mind - you may need to draw it out!

I go to Thatquilt blog often to see how they recommend making the blocks. I think they sometimes make it more complicated than necessary. I'm sure that the original Jane didn't go through all of these manipulations and contortions to make her blocks. I sometimes find that rotary cutting is quicker and easier than their instructions.

I am making my squares 5.5" square and my sashing 1.25". Thanks to some help from Sandpat and my DJ software I finally figured out that my tris should be 6.85 W x 8.0 L. My kites are 8.0 x 8.0. Just in case anyone else wants to make their quilt larger. This will make my quilt 108" finished and it will fit my king size bed.

I do think the math is still off .... original DJ has 4 1/2" blocks - if you increase to 5 1/2" -----you set up an equation to determine how much of an increase you have:

5.5/4.5 = x/100 [why? because 4.5= 100% or equivalent to the original - you solve for "x" by multiplying crosswise... 5.5 x 100 has to equal 4.5 time "x" or in other words 550 is divided by 4.5 .... you end up with 122% [exactly 122.2222] so you have to multiply your original sizes by 1.22

1.22 x 4.5 = 5.49 which approximates 5.5

1.22 x 5 and 1.22 x 8 [the dimensions of the original DJ triangles] = 6.1 x 9.76 - I would call this 6 x 9 3/4
the 6.85 x 8.0 measurement is going to give you something pretty squatty

Gus, I used my DJ software to print my triangles and I checked use size from quilt. I did the same thing with my corner kites. My triangles actually look quite nice. I enlarged my sashing from 1 to 1.25" but if I increase my triangles to 6" x 9.75" I'm afraid my quilt will be too large. I had bought the DJ ruler set and now I won't be using either one of them. I found a ruler that I think I can use for my tris. It is 1988 Marilyn Doheny Cutting Edge Quilt Designs. At the 8" line on her triangle the ruler is very close to 6 7/8 ". I am going to give it a try and see what happens. Thanks for giving me more help with my quilt. I love this quilt board because there are so many experienced quilters who are willing to help one another.

Losie, IMHO, it would be well worth having one specially cut from acrylic. Print out one of your blocs in foundation pattern, add the 1/4" seam allowances, carefully cut that out and take it to a glass shop for them to use as a template. If you take your DJ ruler to show them, they might even be able to cut the tips off for you, too. I'm trying to use my DJ... I made sure my new length uses the same top angle as the original... but that is really cumbersome... would rather just have the right size. We have a LOT of tri's to go

I finally finished week 5! Ugh! I started to do needle turn, but that wasn't working for me. I tried painting with spray starch in the cap with freezer paper on the back. That wasn't working well. Finally, I made that little ironing board in my previous post. I mixed my own starch in a 3 to 4 ratio with water. That was a very good combo with the mini iron. After working that out, I tried machine appliqueing one and I didn't like the look of that. So I hand sewed the rest. My tri's are still a tad oversized... I want to get a custom acrylic ruler made.

WOW! Nancy!! your applique work is perfect - look at those points! I drool ...did you reverse applique?

Thanks, Gus. No, it is regular applique. I use silk thread and between needle. I love the results of the silk thread.
