pewa88... wow!! while scrolling down I had to do a double take - many of the fabrics you used are the same as mine and I just took some similar pictures with my phone [sorry cant transfer now] and was thinking I didnt remember posting them!

I think what you are saying is the blocks are 5" unfinished as the pattern is also. The pattern calls for cutting the sashing 1" - with 1/4" seams at either side, this leaves 1/2" finished sashing. For those trying a QAYG [quilt as you go] this works out such that when you have quilted, either a block or section of blocks, and you add the blocks/sections together, you dont necessarily need to add batting under the seam you are joining because the seam allowances should buttress against each other perfectly. Having said that, some have chosen a slightly wider sashing -always add 1/2" to desired finish for your 1/4" seams..... 3/4" finished, cut at 1 1/4" ....1 1/2" finished, cut at 2".... and so on. If you do decide to make your sashing wider, bear in mind that your triangle spacing will need adjusting as well. You can accomplish this by adding to the sashing surrounding the pieced triangle, or making your plain/printed fabric triangle wider.

Hope this helps!
Got another couple done, camera upstairs, doggy needs walking, dentist appt...will do later

It's been a while since I haven't visited this thread. I started my DJ in purples when this thread started and couldn't pick up but it is something I really want to come back to. I don't have a lot of time to quilt but love it and when I don't quilt I feel like I am missing something.
I see beautiful blocks here, your work is inspiring. I will try to make one block this week. If I commit with an attainable goal I might succeed! I hope anyways.
thanks for showing your work. I'll post pics of what I have done to share.

Thanks for the encouragement from all. Andrea, I understand how you feel. I am going to try to do a block a week and hold myself accountable. I really want to finish this quilt while my hands are still able to do the stitching, since there is a lot of hand work to do. Yes, there is always hope. I am still debating if I will do the triangles, I really want too; but I have to be real about this. I am busy with all the things that come in the retirement years. So I keep a clear perspective concerning this quilt project.

Just wonderful, Dotty! You're way past half-way through. Will you start another when this one's done?

Thanks so much Dotty. I finished 4 blocks this week, yipee! A question for anyone? Are the ones visiting this forum thread now using a schedule for making blocks? I have just been doing blocks in order by rows. At first I planned to do the quilt in 9 sections and do a quilt-as-you-go but that was before reality set in and I will be machine quilting this quilt. I do want to be able to enjoy it before I pass on, Good Lord willing.

Pewa - when I made up the schedule, I tried to stay somewhat in a row to row order, heavy on the easy blocks to get us going, then adding the harder ones in red a little later and spreading triangles, easy and difficult ones throughout the rest of the schedule. If you want, do a bunch of the green ones at first - creates a bigger sense of accomplishment to have a larger number under your belt. You will find some tutorials on posts #s: 795 [A1], 229 [A1], 523 [A11], 804 [B11], 752 & 804 [B9], 1014 [C10], 1041-3 [C2], 1044 [C4], 1045 [C5], 1336 [D6], 1337 [D9], 1338 [E3], 1348 [RS11] [These are not all 'green' easy....I just tried to keep track of the numbers that had tutorials]

I forgot to write the numbers of the tutes I just posted recently, but you can find them if you look back just a few pages. If you get stuck on anything - you can post the question here - or you can always send a PM.

Have fun!!!

Here are my next three blocks - I've actually been spending a lot of time laying out and deciding what fabrics to use on some of these. I'm going on quilt retreat Feb 7-10 and intend to get lots done - only taking Jane's baby along!
