Lesley, thank you for that site, however its not quite thick enough. It will stand up more, its a bit more like a thin cord.

Someone said that they were using iron on silk ribbon and it takes quite a lot. Think it was Gai. Question Gai, how much in yds or metres does a block take please. Just a guesstamate will do.

Ooohhhh Elle, it came! Your lemon is yummy. I love the slant towards the purple/red family with the batiks. I guess you changed your mind from the blues..well, a girl is allowed to do that! I think your choice will really really pop!

I'm still leaning towards the autumal colors on the dark olive but haven't been to the other LQS where I want to look. I hope to make it there in the next couple of weeks. Since I'm still quilting on Jane..I'm in no hurry

Kathy, I agree...I'd have NEVER made it through Jane without the help and support of this group of ladies...so come on girls (and boys)..if you are wavering, take heart...we'll all be learing together!

Never underestimate the power of speech (via the quilting board) LOL.

Elle, I love your colors, your quilt will be stunning!!!

Patti, your colors sound wonderful too. Girlie, are you a redhead?

Does anybody remember the book about chosing your season, four general groups of colors; based on your skin tone and hair color? I'm a Spring, (pastels, creams, navy) the colors were supposed to be the colors that would look best with your skin tone and hair color. Generally, redheads were Autumn, all colors of Autumn. Long time ago...

I will chime in on the value of support this board offers, it is the part that can carry you through to finish a quilt! I printed lots of information on the Jane Stickle quilt 5 years ago, and would look at it from time to time and think "I would like to make this quilt-someday." Then I found the sew along, and my quilt top is finished, I'm not sure I could/would have finished on my own.

Thank you for the welcome! I just checked with Amazon and my book is on it's way. Am getting really excited about this quilt. This is what I needed, something to look forward to!
I have done very little applique so this will be, to me, a new experience.

I had that book, and I am most definitely an autumn! Maybe that explains why I'm making my Penny Haren quilt in autumn colored batiks and am planning the same color scheme for this one! I just love those autumn colors.

Amazon is to deliver my AOTH book today and I can't wait to get it and really start planning....

Elle, I really like your fabric choices there. I think it will make one dangerously beautiful quilt.

I am also leaning towards fall colors, they are my favorite (not a redhead though, lol), although I am considering a possible yellow or gold background, or a green background, need to keep thinking about that, good I still have plenty of time. I actually would have loved to do the black and brights, but it is not my hubby's favorite color combination, so I won't use it for this big quilt.

Yay! My book should be on it's way.

Elle, I love your color choices. Beautiful!

My book is ordered but not arrived. Glad to learn it has a discussion of colors. I am a winter so it will be interesting to see what the author suggests.

However, my DH is red/green color blind so I always consider what looks good to him. He did look at the two with the black backgrounds and thought it would look good for him. I also know that his world is mostly shades of blue and yellow. So, Elle, even your choices would look good for him. Hmmm.... lots to consider when the book gets here!!!

You all are so wonderful. :-D

Oh, goody, several books are on the way. I will be interested to see what you all think once your copy has arrived. The important thing is not to panic, if you feel overwhelmed with the applique, and haven't done much of it up to now.

This is what the board is all about, getting you to think a bit outside the box and try somthing that will stretch you a little bit.

I know I felt this way when I started DJ, it was almost fear and tredipation - I hadn't ever contemplated something so complicated. I was lucky in that I had done hand applique, but I hadn't ever done any paper piecing, so that was new to me. I hadn't ever done a scalloped edge, nor used any kind of Quilt as you Go.

After I finish the block I am working on, I intend to start organising some help for you all by way of lots of pics, so fret not, there will be help here for you to realise this quilt.

BTW, I didn't have a colour book, but I did go for a consultation with a colour consultant. I went with three friends, and we all ended up as a different season. Mine was summer - all the Sweet Pea colours, and lots of blues, purples, plums, aubergines, no orange, brown and only one yellow.

Thanks for all the lovely comments I am glad you like the colour choices. I think its good to see others choices as you really don´t have to stick to the colours in the book.

Remember its your quilt so you choose. I may do this on point as well so that will be different and something others might want to copy

We have all made great friends whilst doing the Dear Jane quilt and its nice to no everyones first names, so thank you Sew Extreme and everyone else but I would love to know your first names please.
