Question...do you think she had stitched all the embroidery? The quilt is beautiful!!!

I am enlarging my blocks by 142% to bring them up from 7in to 10in. I have cut my background squares right across the width of fabric, so they are more or less 11in square, to give me a little 'wiggle' room for trimming down to 10.5in ready for sewing together.

By doing this, I estimate my quilt will end up about 84in square, and will therefore fit my bed. I don't have a lot of room for hanging quilts, only one place really, and I regularly change my quilts according to the seasons in that space. Plus to enlarge a block means that it's sometimes easier to make than a smaller one, and there isn't much more work involved.

I will be making my quilt using the needle turn method, and taking lots of pics along the way, both front and back, to give you all an insight on how I do mine. If anyone wants it, I will try and give some info on how to needlturn and get round the corners, and even how to do the relatively simple embroidery that decorates most, if not all blocks.

I have posted the first block in the thread for it, just to give you an idea on how mine will look. The thread for the first one is here:http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-95416-1.htm#2398791

This quilt was machined, with satin stitch around all the pieces. The maker also changed her border and it's considerably different to the original in the book, which is more gentle curves and swirls than the one in this site. But if you are unsure about the blocks, there are some good pics of the blocks below the quilt, so do scroll down to see them.

I strongly doubt it. In the corner at the bottom is her sitting at her machine with the embroidery module attached and the background fabric hooped. I think she did it the same way I'm planning mine, that the embroidery module will do all the applique with satin stitching AND the finishing embroidery stitches too!

Strange about Fairy Frost melting... I adore them and have never had a problem like that!

This is a block for my Sylvia Bridal Sampler quilt that I did on the embroidery machine yesterday. While it's only applique with no embroidery added, it's similar to what I plan for AOTH.

Patti, I am loving your colours and the reds there just pop the rest of the colours. Thats a great background colour and it works really well with all of the other colours. simply love it your great with colours.

Loads of you are getting your books now so we should see some more colour choices soon, remember and post them so we can all ooooh and aaaah over them, its a much needed thing to do here LOL

Okay back to DJ, just two more rows of batting to hand stitch then on with the backing I did QAUG on this one, so coming along nicely should be finished when its time to start AOTH

Thanks! With her sitting at the hoop that what I was wondering. I have a Bernina 440 QE without the embroidery module and I've been wondering if I should invest in it. Maybe I'll go to my LQS and check it out. When I bought my machine last fall I couldn't justify the additional money, but maybe now I'll get it. :)

Your block looks beautiful! Excellent work and beautiful colors!

I like your background Patti, even if it looks a bit brown on my screen, I can imagine it as an olive colour, and it really looks well against some of your other fabrics.

Paula, you know just getting the emb. module won't get you to the point that Cuilt is. You'd also have to invest in some digitizing software or find the patterns somewhere. I haven't looked on the site that is linked, but maybe she is selling her digitized patterns?

Thanks all, I like it more, the more I look at it. (my background)

I agree with Elle....we want pics!!! we want pics!!!

Patti, looks like that fabric would make a great background -- it looks textured. Really good idea. Awwwwwww!!! I need to stop looking at pictures, because I will NEVER make up my mind on what I want to do. I know I have lots of time, but I tend to change my mind all the time.

Yes, and the software can get rather expensive! She has no contact information on that site - I would love to know what settings she used for the stitches - but I wonder if learning to digitise them was part of the BOM she did at the dealer's or if the dealer gave out the designs to those in the class.

There are also issues with the hoop size, a 7" block has to be multi-hooped unless you own an 8 series with a Jumbo hoop. Even the megahoop isn't wide enough for much beyond a 6" block (luckily what my Sylvia blocks are!), and the large oval cuts the corners off too much to get a full 6" block into it.

I'd be very surprised if she could sell the designs, certainly I haven't seen them anywhere.
