ND - your quilt is AMAZING!!! love it!
Kathy - I swear I have seen that pattern ....probably in one of my dozens [hundreds?] of books...

Well started on block 9... in the hospital trying to keep sane while scared to death my daughter was gonna not pull out - had a major electrolyte imbalance -potassium down just below 2.4 [3.6-5 is normal] . We had gone to local hospital Wednesday night because she had bad case of GI bug - they said her level was "low" gave her a potassium liquid [putrid] which [with tummy flu] she proceeded to puke [duh] & then sent her home and indicated she should ride it out. She has autoimmune problems & we really shouldve gone to UCLA then - but next night there is where we went. By the time we got there her hands were in total muscle contracture and her feet/legs were getting numb. Back home now - arrived a couple of hrs ago, feeling like smiling again after she was hooked up to fluids and potassium drip for 40hr....

at least it is over... and I have most of the block done because it was ...sew or cry.. decided the former was more productive and it looks great. Will post by Monday but probably without embroidery at this point. I have to decide on the thread to use.

Kathy -and Lesley - what are you using??

btw - for those of you afraid to hand applique - I do love to do this, but regardless of whether you do or not. These squares at 6 1/2-7" shouldn't scare you. The pieces do go on oh so fast! The corners & curves may seem easier on something larger, but there will be many many more stitches! Hard for me to say how long the corner hearts took - maybe 40min a piece?? max

the 4 outer petals took less than an hour and a half together.

Cre8, sending all kinds of good wishes for you daughter and your family. What an ordeal for all of you. It was good you had your block to work on and were able to get something accomplished on it. Can't wait to see it posted.

Hello, Everyone!

Our wonderful, exciting new journey begins in just a couple of hours, technically speaking. This week, we will be starting our AOTH quilts with Block #9. This is a fairly simple block to start us on our way. If anyone encounters any problems, please ask for help here on this thread. We have quite a few ladies who are experts in different aspects of this quilt and will be able to solve just about any problem you can come up with. I have been trying to keep a list of what's been happening on this thread, so I might be able to give you a link to the solution of suggestion to help. If not, one of these ladies will be there for you, I'm sure.

When you have finished your block, take a picture of it and post it on the thread called "Affairs of the Heart Photos - Block #9. Anyone who wants to comment, please do so on the Block threads. Each Block has its own thread named as this one is, except with the number of the respective block instead of #9.

As a reminder, the easiest way to get to our group of threads, go to the bottom of any page. At the right end of the row of links is "Topic Lists." Click on that link. You will arrive at the thread for Topics and our Affairs of the Heart group of threads is the second item. Click on that and you will have the entire list of threads to scroll through until you find what you are looking for. I have a feeling that as we start posting pictures for the current week, that thread will magically move to near the top! This is because there is so much activity on it, I think.

I will get the ball rolling by posting my Block #9. I posted one on page 1 of the Photo thread, but I am re-doing all my blocks. I have enlarged the patterns & am doing hand appliqué & embroidery. You will find it on the Affairs of the Heart Block #9 Photo page.

Good Luck & enjoy this journey. I am looking forward to seeing all the pictures of all your beautiful blocks, so be sure and post them when you finish a block!

Kathy

P.S. Please don't feel that you must keep up with the group. If you can't make a block each week, work at your own pace. No one will fault you for that. We all have lives that will get in the way from time to time. Lots of us are just learning to appliqué, so it's taking us more time than some of the more experienced appliquérs. That's OK, too. This is supposed to be fun. It's not a race to see who can finish first, but rather a journey to be enjoyed. I have come to cherish this group of quilters through the group of Dear Jane Cyber-Sew quilt makers last summer. They can be your best friends!

OMGoodiness that is totally awesome... Just started taking a class on needle turn and embleshment, still trying to get hang of the needle turn. Had two classes so far.

Did I read this wrong? Aren't you just starting in June of 2011? or have this been going on awhile.

Asking because I was going to try and do this with you.

We would love to have you join us! I just posted the announcement that this journey has begun. If you're not ready to start, don't worry. There are plenty of gals who are in the same boat as you are. This is not a race, but a journey & part of that journey is getting everything gathered and assembled so you can get going. My favorite part of beginning was gathering/buying the fabric! When you have what you need to get, then you can start sewing, but just getting things together is fun, too. Glad to have you with us!

The official start date is TODAY, but a handful of us couldn't wait, and started the JTG (Jump the Gun) club allied to this quilt. Though we might be ahead of today's starters, it does mean that we have encountered most of the problems you may come across, and found solutions to most of them too, so between us I hope we can help out if any of you have problems.

For those of you starting today, best of luck, I hope it all goes smoothly for you in your chosen method, and if it doesn't, don't panic because there are several ways you can do this quilt.

A great big South Carolina welcome to all who are joining us today! You will certainly be in the company of some wonderful quilters and will have answers to almost any question you could ask (how do I know?---I've asked most of them!)
If you are new to applique as I am, you will love this new experience. I did JTG a little in an effort to not embarrass myself when I had to post photos, but soon found that these blocks were very addicting and I couldn't stop practicing. I am a little ahead, but haven't done my embroidery work yet (saving it to have something to do in my spare time on vacation).
You will love each block you make no matter how wonky it seems. And the encouragement you'll get is unbelievable. So let's get started and have tons of fun this summer!
