I'm packing for the next train ride too, but Linda, that borders thing sounds interesting. How would it work? Would we each do our own or be mailing things around? That part would be expensive.

We would be keeping, and working on our own quilts. no mailing involved (see saving you money right there!) and also it would mean you get a quilt out of fabrics of your own chosing. I think it will be a fun quilt to work on at the same time and the sharing part is the best part for me, seeing how you take one idea and how may different quilts you get out of it often just by the fabric choices such as these mystery trains. It always amazes me. And with two different rounds offered each time well we would all have different quilts. I will probably offer a two choice round each time so one would be a bit easier than the other. The trick right now is how to figure how much fabric each of us need.. Jaba will help me with that but I think it will be more of a personal call. some will want all scrappy, others will want controlled others will want two fabrics and some might want four or five different ones so I think overall yardage will be an guestimate

Linda - I'm looking forward to your making my own round robin - count me in. I've been watching this thread all along and read when I have an extra few minutes. You all have done a spectacular job on your mystery quilts and runners. Judy you have done an amazing job coming up with fun creative designs - I did the top for the carpenters star but never had it quilted - it turned out beautiful - I used bright batiks with black background. I'll keep signed up for this thread and watch for the next adventure.

Everose, that is what I wondered also. Have a couple of panels that are almost square (children - themed) think this might work great as they need to be larger to be useful for even a young child.

Panels will work just fine. Just remember that to put on the different rounds it is much easier to have your center start out with sizes that are divisible by 3 or 4. Examples: center is 21 1/2" so it is divisible by 3 or 20 1/2" by 4. This way when you are adding say hour glass blocks for one border you will know that you have to make 7 or 5 per side, so you would cut your pieces to make them 3 1/2" and 4 1/2" unfinished in order for them to fit. As each round is added it makes it so much easier to figure out. Does that make sense? This is one that I made before Linda and I started the RR's to just try and see what kind of borders to make and how they looked. Each round was staggered with 4 1/2" or 6 1/2" wide. Maybe this will give you an idea.

What a great idea re the border or medallion quilt. Always thought with the diversity of borders it would be a lot of fun to experiment and see what I could come up with. Some of the Madras prints from India traditionally use this idea. Jaba love your guilt, the colors are beautiful. Specially like the ribbon boarder.

Well, I'm confused. Is Judy's mystery train going to have the round robin as part of it or is the mystery train separate, and will the threads be togethr or separate. Guess I missed something here. Not trying to offend, I was thinking it would just be Judy's mystery. Can someone nicely enlighten me? Thanks. :-)

Judys mystery train is another quilt. I am going to do that for sure. I just proposed doing a medallion round robin type quilt here for all to join also.. its something I haven't seen and well think its a great learning tool for all of us. especially me I am learning so much and how they play into making quilts really pop. The round robin typically has five or six rounds depending on how big you want it I think. by the time your finished making yours you would then have the skills to make your other quilts so much more interesting than perhaps they have in the past .. a good thing all in all. I have learned a ton doing my three that I am currently in and well I love it so much I want to do more! BUT again the Mystery Train quilt of Judy's is coming also and not trying to steal her train at all. think there might be room for two on the track

Linda: I agree. I think moving outside your normal groove is always stimulating. Additionally the round robin idea has been in the back of my mind for several years so am especially drawn to that idea. Judy's train looked like so much fun last time that I will be there for sure. Think they should be separate threads to avoid confusion.

Emma they would be separate threads. Coopah the idea is just being "played" with to see if anyone would be interested in doing something like this. No fun if Linda and I are the only ones doing it.
