Hi Mirabelle, I'm supposed to be getting notices for every idividual post but that isn't how they're being sent. I get an email telling me I have 4 new posts added to the thread. So apparently they still don't have all the kinks worked out...or maybe they just don't care. My thoughts?... I sometimes think that they feel that we should be happy with what they give us.

Honchey you mentioned for the first block you were going to cut up the pp pattern to do some English Paper piecing. Where did you find the pp pattern? I only have templates and a line drawing.

I have a million preemie quilts to finish and get to the hospital before I will start this, but that first block is often in my thoughts, wondering how I am going to manage those pesky Y seams. I am counting on lots of help come January 3.

I have very few novelty fabrics as well so mine is going to be different, but that's ok with me.
On the grandkid topic, I was told the same as you for a few years, but number 6 is on the way. Don't give up.

I have the book and some fabric, but I am a feeling a bit intimidated by some of the blocks. I definitely will jump in and join you all on some of the easier blocks, and if you all hold my hand a little bit, I may even give one of the more challenging ones a try!

Anyway, just wanted to chime in.... I may post a picture of my fabrics later.

This is so great to see so many "new" faces. Believe me, I did the FWS and wouldn't have come close to completing it without the help, teaching, and encouragement from the others doing it. (Think 111 potholders--that's what I would have ended up with without all these friends.) I am very intimidated by the first block; I've done it 3 times and each one looks like sh&^%&! But I will do it a 4th or 5th time til I "get it"; that was the beauty of FWS. I learned so much--I'm a much better piecer and quilter than I was at the beginning of the project.

I don't see pp instructions either for block one; just templates and a line drawing. Since I did FWS with all templates, that' what I'm trying to do with this block. If there is a foundation pattern available, please let me know where it is. I've done Y seams before but so many in one little block isn't working real well for me. Thanks!

Jan, Have you ever done english hand piecing?? I think this is the easiest way to do this block. I will have some photos ready for week one. It's not really hard it just takes a little more time. Anne

JanieW, The foundation patterns (pping)are on the cd. you will need 4 pages of paper for 1 block.

According to what I am seeing, there is NO Foundation Pattern for A Beauty, the first block in the quilt. I think there are a few blocks without Foundation Patterns. There is a Line Diagram that you could probably print out and cut apart??? Any ideas ladies?

I'm trying to remember if I used foundation piecing but I don't know anymore.

Oh I remember what I did I marked the 1/4" seam lines, that way it's easier to do Y seams. No foundation piecing!

Yes, that was what I was thinking of doing Anael. Mark the seam line and cut around that so you have exact lines to sew on. That was the original way I learned to piece - many years ago. Instead of cutting on the "cutting" line and using the 1/4" foot.
