QNS, I like that blue and white you used-- wish I had those prints too and I'd copy what you did. :-) You have lots of cute fabric and choose good combinations. But, I have plenty of fabric to choose from already!

I can cut my blocks this week, but I've worn out the motor on my sewing machine again, and I have to wait for my husband to repair it before I can sew them. He's been working on it. He got the motor fixed and the belt back on, but now there is a problem with the tension, in addition, of all things (!), it's sewing in reverse instead of forward. I have no idea how he did that, and he doesn't either. lol I'm thinking about buying a used machine as a back-up. Actually, I have a back-up machine already-- but my sister has it, because her sewing machine isn't working and she doesn't have a back-up...

Pam, I'd say if you don't like the block do it over again. It's nice to please yourself and be satisfied with what you made. The thing is, what we mean to say is, that sometimes we are too hard on ourselves.... plus, you definitely don't need to be a perfectionist to end up with a great looking quilt. I like your choice of fabrics. Send it my way, I'll use it! :-)))) Or before you decide to ditch it, you could try pressing the seams (especially the horizontal center seam in the picture) one way, or the other way, or open. Sometimes if you iron the seam in a different manner it can make a difference. Also, spray starch and a heavy hand with a hot iron can do wonders.

Once the top is quilted, washed, wrinkled, and puckered, maybe those blocks we thought were sewn so well will look like the blocks we didn't use. :-p

Givio, The wires on the motor have been reversed..He has to switch them..

Here are Granny and Heather. I see that Granny is one of the blocks that will be split in half and sewn to the top and bottom of the quilt according to Laurie Hird's block layout. That one doesn't look like it's easily "splitable", so it will probably be traded with one that is. In her instructions on page 261, she says to make only the half of the block you need. But you'll need both halves! The other one we've made so far is #23, Charlotte. That one's a good one to divide.

The joy of doing Laura Aaron Hird books together has been a wonderful adventure. Every week we are all doing the new blocks and not repeating the same block over and over. Each of us expresses our own 'personality' with our personal way of putting the blocks together. No, I would not have completed the first two, or the third one we are doing now without the help of others doing the same tasks. I have meet and travel in wonderful company of them... all lead by Honchey. Thank you, Honchey and all the others.

You're so right, QNS! I'm so glad I ran across this thread when it was first starting up. The "down side" might be that I have more UFO's than ever -- I get a little bored with making the same block over and over. And I've learned a lot with this project: Did my first partial seam for one of next week's blocks. It wasn't at all difficult; I just hadn't done one before. And, Givio, just wait til you see the fussy cutting on one of them! LOL

Katybob lol I sometimes do the fussy cutting and sometimes don't. I have plenty of blocks that aren't fussy cut. Anyway, I'm running out of fabric that looks good for fussy cutting, so I'll probably make more that aren't in the future. :-) You are going to set your blocks like in the book? I'm not. I like that setting though, and might use it in a future project. I'm just setting my blocks on point in solid color fabric. I already starting doing that. It makes me feel like I have more done that way. With them set, it seems like I have a fourth of the top done. When I see the 30's fabric you guys are using, it makes me want to make a top with all those prints too. I just love that type of fabric! But! not going to start over at this point.

QNS, I agree, it's so fun to work on the same project together and see pictures of what someone else chose to do.

...Going crazy here without a sewing machine this week. Hope to have that solved this weekend.
