Default THE FWS PONY CLUB Quilt-Along Wk 6 Broken Heart & Boy's Playmate Discussion Page

I'm so glad the distractions of last week are over with.....Go GIANTS!!! Yeah! and now I'm trying to clean up from my grandson's birthday party which was also on Sunday.....balloons all over the place...

I found Boy's Playmate very easy to do and now I have to find some broken heart fabric...being Valentine's day is just around the corner I'm tempted to do it in red and white....this block reminds me of one or two from the first Quilt-Along... I didn't like making them very much.

Our group is moving along really great...can't wait to see some blocks !!! Honchey

I just finished Broken Heart and I'm done for the night with it! Was very frustrating for me.

Just for you
Honchey .......
Under the B .......... 42
Under the G ...............4

Go ahead .... admit it, you're missing it tonight!

I was tempted to use my Valentine's fabric that I'd used in FWS ... just didn't feel that it fit the theme.
I'm sure I'll regret it!

OKSGlad ... you got the tough and slow one done .... Boy's Playmate goes quite fast!

When I started I meant to have my darks and lights reversed, but cut my triangles wrong and not wanting to waste fabric, I changed plans. I had already marked d (for dark) on my paper patterns so that confused me the whole time. I con't know how many times I sewed and frog stitched. Glad that one's done. Going to pick fabric for the Boy's Playmate. Then call it a night.

OKSGlad ... you'll have Boy's Playmate sewn up in no time tomorrow!

**Here's a Hint** ... I code my PP using highlighters according to the colour of fabric I want in the section.

I find it easier than looking at printing (eg. D for Dark ... and then switching it up!)
Of course, it's not foolproof for this ol' fool ... but I do find it easier to just see the colour and try to grab the right colour of fabric!

And guess what? I looked ahead at next week's ... UGH! circle and templates!! UGH! At least it's partner is an easy one!

DublB ... Thanks for to you, I started the thread with the Alphabet Soup of Acronyms and Quilters Dictionary!

Next week's Bird Eye's View is not that hard, the curves aren't tiny so there's enough room for lots of pins! The middle part is applique. I'm not too fond of curves either but this one went together smoothly.

QuiltE I just finished Birds Eye View and it went together really easy. I just clipped the concave curve about 1/8 inch in and pinned in the centre and lined up the side seams. ssshhhh I have next weeks blocks finished don't tell anyone

Did anyone use the templates to make Broken Heart? I tried 3 times and had the same problem each time-the outer 4 "heart" sections were too big. I was wondering if there was an error in the template size or just me. Thanks to Anael & QE I bit the bullet and paper pieced. I have to replace one outer triange that I cut too short on one side but it went together pretty easy pping. Thanks again for the help. I love this group!!

JanR...after you noted that you had trouble with the templates, I carefully measured them against the line drawing and the outer heart diagonal piece was just a smidge longer for the trmplates so I didn't try to use them. I thought I would try freezer paper but those little triangles were unruly so I went to paper piecing. I expected that I might meet Miss Froggy there but she brought along Mr.s Wrong Side Up, Can't Reverse Thinking, You Cut It Too Small, and Not Enough Fabric! What unwelcome intruders. You'll see what I had to do when I post the pictures. I wasn't about to do the flying geese again. I thought I had them vanquished for the day when the Boy's Best Friend went together like a breeze but they were just hiding in my Civil War Quilt! They just wouldn't go away so I finally quit for the day but Miss Froggy is waiting this morning before I can do anything else. What a way to start the day.
