Okay--everyone gather around--it's group hug time! Nothing helps soothe the soul like a hug. C'mon a good "squeeze" now. All feeling better now for a moment or two? Great!
Love the latest MB's--that black and white's spectacular and the pastel sooo soft. Delightful block makers.
Such a busy week I wasn't sure what I was going to do after DD and family left this morning--nothing on the have to do list. Then sis called and we chatted for an hour--both excited about my trip out. I've spent the day looking for "found" objects for her to use in her art projects and now I have little piles of stuff every where Hope to get it all organized before I call it a day.
Just to let you know I finished my little hexie quilt. You can see it here.

So glad to hear Anael is home & doing well..Thanks QuiltE for letting us know..

QNS, Hope your surgery goes well. We'll all be thinking of you...Take care until then...

As for myself...I know I have to have surgery as well and will probably have it done after the Holidays...that is unless it gets to the point where I'm useless and can't do anything....

JanRN & Ggal, great block!! isn't it wonderful that a simple pattern can be dynamite with color & texture...I love it!

Bev, Good news on the house...let's hope everything goes well...What a neat idea Jan on Bev's block!! It turned out great...
    Such talented Ladies here ...
My MB is going in the mail tomorrow...Sorry it will be late...I'm just not myself lately.... Have a good evening eveyone..tomorrow's another day...

Wow, lots of chatter today! So sorry Anael had to go to the hospital, glad she is on the mend (and Bram too). Jan and Gardnergal - wow what a wonderful block! OK - I'm joining in that great big hug! There are sure a lot of us that need that it seems.

JanRN and GGal ... great block I really like the reversal of the fabrics. The print would not be one I would think of using and WOW, I just might have to remember that for another time.

Thanks OKSGlad ... we all needed that!

OKSGlad ... bet you are getting excited for your big journey! Oh what fun for you and your DSis!

Honchey ... you can still scream, even though you know it's a must-do! Was thinking of you and your area tonight when they did a feature of Sandy, a year later.

And now ... some shuteye for me!

    Goodnight QuiltE

Thank you Oksewglad for the hugs, yes we all need a good hug sometimes, when life just seems to get a little difficult.
I loved your hexie project it is so cute. I sewed the binding on my jelly roll quilt today, tonight might start the hand sewing. I am almost finished quilting the Tweet embroidered quilt, if I have no interruptions (DH) tomorrow I might get it finished and ready for the binding on Monday. (Fingers crossed)
    Have a great day everyone

Just got caught up on the posts. All I can say is, I agree with OK--a group hug is in order!! Last year was a horrible year for me and you all rallied around and got me through it. For all you facing health, family, and other issues, please count on this group to get you through--it's amazing how much we know and care about each other.

I have to catch yinz up on my work situation. Found out that the last employee (the one who stole prescription pads) has been arrested along with her sleaze of a boyfriend. Still don't know how many rx's she wrote, sold, used or whatever but also found out she's a heroin addict and the day she called off work because she went to the Emergency Room with "a really bad cold" she was actually taken there by police because of a heroin overdose. My office manager and I have been nurses for over 40 years each, doc has been in practice for at least that long and we didn't know!! We're kicking ourselves and feeling stupid because looking back, we missed so many signs in the 3 weeks she was with us. Now we see what she was doing when she went out to her car or was in the bathroom for a long time. But the thing is, her last employer gave her good references. Did she fool them, too?

Good news (I think) is that we hired someone to start Monday. I got to interview her, too, and she had no visible tattoos, no visible body piercings, and no visible needle tracks on her arms (I looked!!!). Now, to hold our breaths and hope she works out and I can go back to semi-retirement. I like the pay checks (I call them "big girl paychecks" LOL) but I haven't had time to spend them. Look out LQS's if she does work out--I see a major FART and boost to the economy and my stash coming!!!

Have a great week-end and take care of yourselves. Do something you enjoy just for you!

D_D, What does your shrug look like??

Love all the HUGS sent...We all gather round don't we. I'm resigned to the fact that the surgery needs to be done..it's just a matter of when...Off to the post office for me..The MB is done!! Sorry to the recipient its' going to be late!!!

I hope everyone has a good weekend...

    Hi my dear friends!!!
QuiltE, thanks for posting my message.
I'm back, at least for a while. I've been very sick this past week as you all know. Sunday afternoon they put a drain in my right kidney and from there things went very bad and Sunday night I was rushed to the ICU. But I survived, and now I'm home, recuperating and waiting for surgery as my kidney stone is still there It will take a few weeks before I'm back to my old self again.

Bram is doing very well since he came home yesterday. He's eating, laughing and very happy to be home again. I won't see them in the next few days but I stay in touch with my DS and DDIL on the phone. As soon as I'm able to drive again I will visit them. Can't wait to see them again!

Thanks all for the group hugs, it is much needed! I read all the posts but I'm not going to respond to every one. I'm sure you all understand.
I won't be here that much, I'm very tired all the time so most of the day I'm on the couch with PP (aka KK) watching movies. My kids are looking after me, running errands and doing things that need to be done.
    It's good to be back
    Eat, quilt, sleep, repeat

Busy cleaning house. Tackled the linen closet in my bathroom...four loads of laundry to do....have done two of them. Dh came in and vacuumed the closet out thoroughly. Now to fold up all the extra towels and bed linen...after it dries. And go through the papers as I get time...its on my quilting table so it will have to be dealt with before I quilt again. It will take most of tomorrow to finish washing, folding and putting everything ba. 'Tis looking good, smells cleaner now, too! That Rainbow vacuum makes the air smell soooo much better.

NEMO computer/telephone tech came out on a Saturday afternoon and replaced the modem so the signal is coming in stronger and better now. Been trying to tell that to the guys the last five times they were here...Nick left convinced when he seen how things were working better.Appreciated him fixing it today.

Since the laundry is not trained to fold itself, I had better change loads in the washer/dryer and fold towels. And bed linen. Down sizing in house area (less bathrooms) and family sure leaves a surplus of towels and linen.

Thanks everyone for the BIG HUG; it helps one feel better. Enjoy your trip, OKsewGlad. Maybe you should check Friday's mail again.

Some great MBs coming in. I got mine one in the mail today from Dublb...thanks!!! Lots of pretty batiks!

Also here is the link to my son's quilt finished at my retreat: http://www.quiltingboard.com/quiltin...ml#post6369986

Thanks for the hugs and hugs back to you all!! We split firewood this morning and I let DS do the heavy lifting. Then I iced my shoulder right away. Not too terrible this afternoon...about time for more ibuprofen though. I've had elbow pain on and off for years so figure I'll just do what I want to as long as it isn't too painful on the shoulder...of course both areas of pain are on the right side, so that limits me some.

Anael - so glad you are back, do take care of yourself! Goodness, you ended up in ICU- how scary for you! Did they ever find out what was wrong with Bram? I'm so glad he is home and eating well again.

Carrie - What a great boy quilt you made for your son. Dublb made a great block for you!

Anael ... You're welcome! Now go and rest up and lest that PP snuggle in with you. Glad to know your kids have rallied to help you rally! So good to know that Bram is doing so well now.

JanRN ... you now have me visualizing a strip-search of applicants! Don't beat yourself up on missing it ... characters like that have skills beyond your insight abilities. Now you can go into countdown mode to his the LQS' and spend spend spend!

CarrieM and DublB ... a nice addition!

CarrieM ... great quilt for your DS. Did he have a hand in choosing the fabrics?

QNSue ... what happened to slowing down a little?

icky cold rainy blowy day here ......... I was out in it and came home and have yet to feel like I have fully warmed up. 20 kms away they had quite a covering of snow. Here, only snow showers.

Then came home and thought I would sew and get that 2nd runner finished. Had the quilting well on the way last night. So kept track of my settings and started up ...... only to discover it was skipping stitches. Cleaned my machine again, re-threaded top/bottom, changed needles, played with tension ....... to no avail. What am I missing?

So I turned it off ... made supper ... watched the figure skating championships ... and am hoping that overnight it decides to work as well as it did on Friday night.

    Any suggestions??????????
    will be greatly welcomed!
    THANK YOU!

QE--Yes, DS helped pick out the fabrics, did the piecing and even started the quilting--he was 10 at the time (he put 3 rows together QAYG), then he got bored of it. He did the blocks a little over 4 years ago and then we moved and he had other things to keep him busy. Then I learned how to do QAYG and he decided he wanted to do it that way. He has worked on it here and there, but asked if I would finish it as a birthday present (his birthday is next week he'll be 14!)...so I happily did. It is flannel front and back...so VERY warm. A couple ladies had to "break it in" (took naps) at the retreat...there was a couch in the main room. Not sure how they could sleep with all the chatter, but several snoozed on that couch!

What a Super Mom you are CarrieM ... and special memories for both of you on the story of that quilt.
Have you been able to keep its finish a surprise for him for his birthday?

Important! that it's been tested already!

QE--nope, he saw me working on it. I was going to just wait to work on it at the retreat so he wouldn't see it, but once I got to looking at it and seeing what needed to be done (and as many breaks as I need with my shoulder) I knew I better start before the retreat.

SIGH!!!and I have been knitting little legwarmers for the girls.... and shopping for Christmas deals! we dont do much, LESS IS MORE, but I feel the need to get exactly what they want for the best price, and BEFORE the madness begins... (more dollars for fabric) and my youngest DD bday is Nov29, so I shop WELL ahead of time so that I dont have to go to the store AT ALL during the crazy time!

Wise decision, Carrie, to get your son involved with it, but to stop and not force him, but to let him decide when to come back to it. He will appreciate your help and prize the quilt a little more. Sounds very cozy and looks great.

QuiltE, there are just some things a gal has to do; with mice getting in to that linen closet, I was going to clean it up before bf came into my room to take care of me. And yes, when I was working and hiring housecleaning help at $36 an hour, I did clean a bit before they came into my home. My bathroom attracts mice and bugs, its unreal...so I use Tom Cat poison to keep down the population explosion. Bf may never see that linen closet, but I knew it was there and what it needed. Dh was a real dear and helped a lot on this job and on the guest room as well. My house is clean and ready for this week. Yes, I am taking it easier, asking for help, and not reading of a night so I do not overuse the eye. All of that is hard for me to do, especially the last one. And not quilting or using the sewing machines. Sigh.

Getting older is a humbling experience. Thank goodness the youth here has been raised right (from the cradle to sixty plus years) and lend a helping hand with a smile. Times past, I have always jumped into things feet first and think later about how much work it was to do it right the first time. Now I have to stop and re-think before I go into action. And ask for help: facts: I cannot see well. I cannot jump two inches high anymore or go on hikes. Have problems getting in and out of the car. My pace matches a snail's pace. But I still have miles to go before I rest. Slowing down, yes...giving up....NO! Seeking solutions, YES.

Seek the solutions for better life and count your blessings today. Celebrate the day. It will be gone tomorrow.

CarrieM ... it'll be real special for him, to know that you did the extra work, when perhaps your shoulder would have preferred you to not do so!

DDamsel ... can you just add me in to your list of shrug sisters? After all, we do share a name, so just think of it as being yours!

QNSue ... your words are good ones for everyone to heed ...

I have been workin' on a Doll Quilt that goes ta one 'o my retreat friends. It is drivin' me crazy. I can't git my borders ta lay flat. The corners are curlin' up. Every spare moment I have has been spent rippin' out. Then sewin' just ta rip out again. Sigh. I'm gonna git back ta it.

Oh so sorry for your frustration dublb! Hopefully you got it fixed by now!

QNS - very profound words indeed! I've always been a hyper person, so it is so hard for me to slow down too. I cannot just sit and watch TV, I always have to have a book, or craft type thing to do. I rarely watch TV!

Ok, I'm takin a break. The borders are on. Don't, I repeat don't, put borders on a top that has used a gridded stabilizer for the "grid" method. At least it's only 21" square before the borders. I'll sandwich it in a li'le bit & start the quiltin'.
