Good news...I have GrannyQ's BBs! They are very pretty! Great job.

DH is marking where the new "clubhouse" will go. Bad news is that we will have to build it ourselves now. The people who (verbally) sold it to us were living in a rented house and built the shed on that property. They were just moving out and now the owner won't let them have it...soooo it will be a lot longer before I can move in, but this way I can plan doors and windows where I want them....not to mention the lighting and outlets! Watching Menards ads for sales on building materials and a couple trips to the "Re-Store" (Habitat for Humanity re-sale center nearby).

Back to sewing Rosie rows...should be able to get all the rows together today and start quilting next week!! Here are the blocks laid out with sashing and setting triangles...

Anael, have sent the 'daisy' card with hugs. Love the log cabin quilt...that is one of my favorite patterns. Hope the kitty feels better when she gets back home.

Honchey, so happy you posted your latest news...great that you are winning at Bingo and you enjoyed the homemade orchard jam. My English muffin was sooooo bad the chickens got the rest of the package. Have copied off the carrot cake recipe with intentions of making it. Will let you know my results. Made Paula Deen's Mac and cheese for lunch and it did turn out well...she is on the foodnetwork.com site on internet and has her own cooking show.

Worked on dh pillow pockets for his bed; will try to post pictures tomorrow.

Thank you QNS! I didn't do a log cabin quilt before though I always admire those quilts when I see them. I love the patterns you can make with the blocks. So when I found a quiltpattern with log cabin blocks I thought I give it a try. Now to make more scraps

Tomorrow I will visit my DDIL with my DS. As we will stay quite long I started a sweater so I can knit while sitting there and talking My mom always said: 'when you're knitting you can do something else at the same time' and I still do. Either watching a movie, reading or talking. No complicated design though otherwise I can start all over again!

Carrie, I love your Rosie quilt. I'm very far behind, still have to do 9 or 10 blocks! They're on my to do list

    *gasp*
    .... no BINGO for Honchey??
    *feints*

THANKFULLY I read on to discover that you did allow some BINGO during your quilt-fest! Do you go straight to the LQS or that fabric warehouse with all your winnings? Glad you've made progress on those BBs. You sure have built the suspense as to "what" they are!

Looks like I did the same ... all BBs the same, only different!
    Anyone else do this?

mmmmmmmmmm carrot cake! Thanks for the recipe ... I think it'd be dangerous to have that cake around!
    mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm grape jam!!!

My Mom used to make Grape Conserve ... absolutely delectable. And now you have me dreaming of that.

JanieW ... thanks for the directions. I got thinking about that today, and wondered about just that. The part that gets me is that it's not consistent. Sometimes on QB, sometimes not. Sometimes when I am in Outlook, sometimes not. I haven't been into Word much yet, so really don't know. Have reset it now, so we'll see!Yea for you being almost done the PC blocks!! Photos, please!!!!!! Sashing and cornerstones chosen? Started to add?

JeanieG & Anael ... I think we were all thinking the same!! Thanks!

Anael ... your log cabins are beautiful and are going to make for one showy quilt. They'd be nice in the Barn Raising layout too! Hope you have an enjoyable visit tomorrow. Great idea to start a knitting project for these visits. I bet your DDIL is getting bored already. Is there anything you can take her to work on? or perhaps some reading?

QNSue ... I bet Anael and her DDIL and DS will have a good laugh over the mis-picks we'll make, in not understanding Dutch. After all, Laughter is The Best Medicine, isn't it? Yes, life is what we make of it ... I have really changed in the last years, and able to go a lot more with the flow than I used to be. Dealing with adversities, you have a choice ... and that's the choice I made. Some go sour and bitter, and I could have easily gone there. THANKFULLY I did NOT! Wondering now, will the new Carrot Cake recipe be your DH's birthday cake?

OKSGlad ... when you get here ... you'll be able to one up all of use with your Dutch connection!

CarrieM ... I'd take your weather ... today was back in the boonies starting at -18C ... and rising to -12C. Tomorrow though, we are to see it "soar" to +2C!!!! I'm a little confused here ... does this mean you are building, from scratch your new clubhouse now? and not moving the other one in? That might be a good thing, as you know how renos can go and add up. As you said, now you can really plan what you want for inclusions and the like ... remember the washroom plans! Rosie is beautiful ... love your colours. I forget did you do the 4" blocks? or the larger ones?

GrannyQ ... Congrats on getting your BBs thru to CarrieM!

So far so good on the ????????? """"""""""""" and ''''''''''''' .... Thanks everyone!!

Tonight I mapped out an Irish Chain pattern, to see how much I need for a baby quilt ... and whether I have enough to make it with. Tomorrow I'm off early to get my hair cut, then I hope to get home and do some stitching. Once I get ahead on this baby quilt, then I can get back to PC ..... That's my plan! And sure hope I can stick to it!

Carrie I love your Rosie quilt, another one I am sorry I did not particate in, oh well can't do everything.

Anael you will have to make another visit to your DDIL on Monday after she receives all her cards, I hope she enjoys reading them all.

Wow more than 1000 posts who would have thought that when we started Farmers Wife we would all still be chatting years later.

I am off to the sewing room, have to embroider a few quilt labels and sew the sashing on a QAYG top, nothing very exciting. Once I get these out of the way I can concentrate on my quilts once again. I am up to Block 6 on Out of The Darkness, sewed all day yesterday and only managed to finish half a block and DD was helping when I finish it will post a pic for you.

Anael--I don't think I commented on your log cabin, but it looks great...good job on contrasting lights and darks.

QE--yes that means we are starting from scratch. The "wash room" sounds good, but the county we live in wouldn't allow that, so will have to make the short trip to the house when needed. It is good for me to have to get up and move around once in a while.

My Rosie blocks are the 10" ones...I did just 18 of the 20 since I am going for a large throw finished. I got the blocks sewn into rows today, also cut the border and backing fabrics. I have enough batting so will cut that into strips this weekend and then will start doing QAYG next week...my goal is to have the binding done by the end of the month.

My next quilt(s) ti finish will be PC in between making "clutches" and I decided to do travel kleenex holders too...maybe magnets, checking into that one.

I'm tired tanight. First I'm worried about my #2 DSon's cat. She is at the Vet's. She had a tumor removed from her forehead taday. She is such a sweet cat & almost 12 yrs old.
Second I spent 3 hours (w/my DSis) decorating for my DNiece's baby shower.
Now my other DSis is gonna come over in a li'le bit ta work on her DD's baby quilt. The one night I want ta go ta bed & I gotta stay up. That's life. LOL

AND ... Anael had BETTER take her camera for some pics!

Anael .. you can email them to us, to keep them off the web!

MiraB ... you are incredible as to what all you accomplish. How many quilts did you complete in 2012?

CarrieM ... Likewise here, would be harder to get a washroom included. Bylaws can be so difficult ... though many manage to do, and keep it hidden .... as in make it a closet with all ready to convert later when the building inspectors have long disappeared! There are ways, my friend! The travel kleenex holders will go well with your clutches. Another might be a little zip pouch. You are very generous to your retreat ladies. Have you recruited GGal again? Your Rosie sure is going to be beautiful ... such unique fabric choices.

DublB ... No, you don't have to stay up! Get your sister set up with your sewing machine and what she needs, and say .... "see you in the morning!"

QuiltE, with a bit o' luck might show you the 'pillow pockets' Name: DSCN1210.JPG
Views: 188
Size: 80.1 KB Right of side of the bed turned around so you can see the fabric that is on the bed, the lower 2 pockets with the moose, the gray top and the deer is 3 pockets just off the top of the bed. Name: DSCN1212.JPG
Views: 196
Size: 54.7 KB Its half of the Selvage to selvage,,,about 22 inches wide, both rows of pockets are about 16 inches hanging off the bed side. Big books go in the 2 pockets with the moose photos; the 3 pockets are equally spaced and not as tall as the moose pockets. The rambling wildlife bed top fabric has another piece the same side to put right sides together and sew on wrong side all the way around, almost closed leaving a 'hole' (the seam open a short distance in the middle on one side) to turn inside out, so the right side faces out.

Clear as mud? Will try to finish tomorrow..

Thanks QNSue ... the fabrics are perfect for the purpose too! Lucky man, he is!
I had never heard of pillow pockets before, and can see how useful they are.
Bet you were surprised when your DD told you she still had hers!

Are you managing to do any of your DHs presents as a surprise?

I'm sorry to let you all down but I'm not visiting my DDIL on Monday. My DS will of course and I'll ask him to take pictures.

QuiltE, I changed the settings so I'm on page 26 right now
My DDIL doesn't do any knitting, she only does counted cross stitching once or twice a year She has a book and as she's a very slow reader (dyslexia) that's enough for the next two weeks!
She told me her neighbour is a very nice woman and they chat a lot. That lady is leaving next Wednesday

Mirabelle, do you have a picture of your embroidered quilt labels? I would love to see them!

I better get my behind in gear, it's 9.15 am here and I still have a lot to do before leaving for the hospital!

QNS: how do you keep those pockets from falling on the floor? I understand how do make them but that's the part I don't get.

7 years ago my DNiece was pregnant & they said it was a girl. We had a biggggg girl shower. DSis had embroidered a quilt top w/the girl's name on it. Well ya'll have already guessed it. In April we were told it was a boy & my Great DNephew was born in May. (At least the quilt top hadn't been quilted yet.) Well my DSis needed me ta help her fix it for her other DGSon, that is on the way. I made applique hearts ta cover the name. DSis spent all day redoin' the pink embroidery ta orange & green. This evenin' I top stitched the hearts on & we got it sandwiched. She will hand quilt around the Bear & Hearts (there are other hearts on it also) & when I git back from OKC I'll machine quilt the radiatin' lines. We also used spray bastin' on a fleece throw that she will tie for her grandson. She had never heard o' spray bastin' & thought that applique was way too hard. She's very pleased. She doesn't have a job right now but her new DGSon will have a very nice quilt from her.
She then helped me reorganize my cuttin' table, that had become a big pile o' projects! She left about 15 min.s ago. (It's about 3:00am here, my normal bed time.)

QNS your pillow pockets look great I am sure DH will put them to good use.

Anael I sent you an e-mail a few days ago, did you get it. I just tried to take a photo of my labels and my camera is doing weird stuff, it is as if it is taking 2 photos at once and overlaying them. Will try again tomorrow.

    Good Morning All!!!! ...

    MiraB
......... *gasp* you forgot your FWS, so at least 22!
    and others?
You'll surely think of more! Maybe start a list for 2013?

Anael ... maybe you could take DDIL a counted cross stitch? I was thinking the same about DublB's niece and baby!

DublB ... YIKES! hope you sleep in today. What a lot of work to transform that quilt! When do you leave with DH?

Anael, the pockets are sewn to the one side in the middle of the half lower and thirds on top, triple stitched...the ends and sides are sewn with right side to right side together, sewing on the wrong side, front and backing, with a slot not sewn on one side in the middle which allows you to turn the wrong side to the right side...the bottom and sides of the pockets are caught in the seam, thus holding items in the pockets. The photo shown has only the one layer without the backing on it yet. First have to get the pockets placed and sewn down in their divisions, then add the backing which secures the sides and bottom of the pockets. Hope this explanation helps to picture it better. Dh was made to his wishes, they can be smaller in width, but must measure across the bed under the pillow, top of first pockets should be even with the top of the mattress of the bed; then you can add as many pockets as you wish going down to the floor or comfortable height to reach from the bed when you are lying in it. So the measurements can vary....

Very neat for those wearing glasses or like to read at night in bed...keeps them handy and easy to find when they get up in the morning.

Quilte, very seldom to I keep a project or anything a secret from dh....unless its a FART trip on how much I did buy!!! I don't hide it, but I don't have a show and tell, either. He calls my quilt room a hobby room and tends to put it down until he needs something, and that has to come before anything else....guess I have spoiled him too much over the 47 years of marriage. One day at a time.

Hair shorter .. does that mean I have lost wait? I only wish!!!
Some lunch and the off to my happy place!
Tune in later, as I may be needing some feedback when I get started with this ... and whether I proceed!

    QNSue
.... Good for you! The two of you have worked well together for many years ... and hopefully many more to come! I *think* the confusion Anael had (and I do too) ... as to how the assembled pockets are held in place on the bed. If it's to a pillow, it'd never work for me ... I move my pillow around, depending on how comfortable or restless I am. So do you do a set for the other side of the bed, to counter balance? Or do you run it between the mattress and box springs to hold it in place? I think it's a spectacular thing to have and would be SO handy for many.

Anael ... perhaps DDIL could use one this next while? However, I would suspect the hospitals here would never allow them, for fear they'd catch in the bed mechanisms. Or that they'd be unsanitary and such! Sadly sometimes hospitals and care facilities miss out on what could make a patient's stay more comforting in their provision of care!

QuilE, they are much like a foot quilt, only no batting; it goes underneath the pillow, and hangs over both sides of the bed so it is balanced. Although some put a safety pin through it and the sheet to hold it in place, I made mine out of flannel which clings to his flannel sheets. Because it is balanced on both sides, it really does not move very much at all. Size and measurements depend upon the mattress size:twin, single, double, queen or king. How many rows of pockets, the width and depth of them...usually at least two rows of pockets, the top ones are for smaller items, like glasses, cell phone; the second for any paperback book, etc. newspaper folded up...

Hey, twist your friend Janie's arm and get her into this PC exchange,too...she is almost finished with her PC quilt and has been a big fan of all of us....I think there is still time for her to join....can I have a second on that motion??

Mirabelle, yes I did receive your email. Thank you so much and I'm very sorry I didn't reply, I totally forgot with all that's going on here

QNS, I understand how it works! Thanks for the explanation! It's a neat solution to having a pile of books next to the bed like I have!

QuiltE, I think you're right about not allowing them. I wonder if they will allow a quilt in the room. I wanted to finish the Waiting Game and give it to my DDIL as she complained of cold feet today. I just might give it to her when it's finished and see what happens. As long as you can wear your own cloths I guess it's ok to use a quilt as well.

My DS has his 27th birthday tomorrow and we're celebrating in hospital so I have to get up early tomorrow. We're leaving at 9 am so I will go and try to get some sleep now.

♪♫♪ Happy Birthday tomorrow DSofAnael!! ♪♫♪

Anael ... Make the quilt and take it ... don't ask! Remember it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission. ITA that the quilt is no different than your DDIL having clothing in the room. Under the circumstances and her long term stay, hopes would be they would show come compassion and be a little more lenient than someone who is just there for a few days.

QNSue ... thanks for the extra info on the Pillow Pockets! Good plan to use flannelette as it would surely help make it stick!

QNS--I like the idea of the pillow pockets...thanks for sharing details on that.

Dublb--I hope you get much more sleep tonight! The last time I was up until 3am was at a retreat last March...then I was actually up until about 4 two nights in a row...won't be doing that again this year!!

Mirabelle--you do a great job on your quilts and don't let anyone fault you for the number finished in a year!! You are at a place in your life where you have the time and you use it wisely making quilts for family, friends, and charities...that is awesome!!

QE--thanks for the idea of the "zip pouch", but one thing I *don't do* is zippers! I had a couple bad experiences so I just avoid them by not making the pattern or altering it. Ggal actually recruited me to a retreat near her in Sept....if she wants to make the trip here she would be most welcome, as would any of you. We still have room for 6 more people (at least I think that was the last count).

No sewing today...it was an archery tournament day and then this afternoon we had some friends over for a late lunch. No new BBs....maybe Monday. Tonight I am working on figuring fabric requirements for an "airplane" quilt for DH's friend. Tomorrow afternoon I'll be cutting batting for Rosie and pinning layers for the QAYG...maybe even a little sewing too if time allows!
