Wow QuiltE, is that a book? It's beautiful and I love the quilts and blocks on the barns. I wish I lived over there on the other side of the pond! We don't have classes like that over here

Yes, Anael ... it's a book and pattern based on their Quilt Trail.
I didn't know anything about it, til I saw the LQS info.
Here's a link to their site.

Quilt Trails have become quite popular over here in recent years. I've only followed one (and only part of it) ....
http://www.barnquilttrails.ca/
The guide book was made it interesting, telling historical info and local info of interest.

As for wishing to live here ... while that may not be feasible, you know, you could come for a visit!!

JeanieG and CarrieM ... I was much the same in thinkin of the temperatures!
Yes, I know it's cccccccccold for you JeanieG, but we northerners are saying, oh heaven!

It's about -11°C here right now .... and heading to -18° (that's Zero F!) tonight.
bbrrrrrrrrr!
YOu can always tell when it gets to 0°F .... the snow squeaks!

Give us a sunny calm day in the depths of winter ........ and it is beautiful .... and all the layers are not needed!

Now that's a plan! Coming for a visit would be great
I've done a search for the book, prices on eBay are insane while you still can order it in stores. I will never understand this.

Baby, it's cold outside.......at least where you are QuiltE! Temperatures here are above normal but with rain and lots of wind it feels quite cold.

I'm off to bed now, it's 11.30 pm here and I didn't get a lot of sleep last night.
I was at my DS, DDIL and DGS's this afternoon and evening and we had a very good talk about what happened. I still have a hard time dealing with everything, also did bring back some not very pleasant memories but I'm feeling a bit better now.

Anael...you are so very talented. Your blocks are SO well done. What got you interested in quilting and how did you start without any lessons? I initially started many years ago by using a book and when I took up quilting again about 21/2 years ago, there were so many changes in techniques, I found classes or at least sewing with others and learning by observing invaluable. Just this PC ride has honed my skills but i still have to fudge a lot to make everything square! I've been thinking about an Acquilt. I just haven't mastered accurate cutting. Have you looked at Amazon for the book? I don't know about international shipping but they are just about the best for me here in the states.
It sounds like you were strong and there for your DS and DDIL during the crisis and now you're dealing with all of the realities you couldn't then. Still in my prayers.
Jeanie..I don't like big crowds either and the TV coverage is so good for most of those big crowd things. I did the 9 setting squares today for the mystery quilt. This is the first time I've done a quilt by units, usually it's one block at a time and I like this. The final blocks come together so nice.
Carrie...how nice that your daughter likes to work with you at the LQS.

Just a reminder to everyone the last Compass Block is available for download from Quilting on the Square. As this is the last block I am not sure how long it will stay on their website as they seem to be adding new BOM's for this year.

Anael sent you an e-mail

Mirabelle, got it

GG: thanks for your compliments! I started quilting about 3 years ago. I was a member of an embroidery board and some of the members were quilting too. Once, many moons ago, I tried to do some patchwork but didn't get anywhere and I thought I hated it. Nothing matched, not even one seam! So I quit and never gave it another thought. When I saw the quilts on that board I thought I might give it one last try and here I am I took one class on FMQ because I was too scared to do it myself. Did a few practice pieces but had no clue what to do. One class was all it took to get me over my fears for FMQ.
Don't think my blocks are all perfectly square and all the same size because they aren't! You should hear me talking to myself while sewing LOL LOL. In these past 3 years I became very close friends with my seam ripper!

Anael I think we have all had that relationship with a seam ripper at some stage or another

I can remember always seeing a quilt pattern and telling my friend "that looks easy it won't take us long to make" Well we were both working but we taught ourselves, my friend had a much better understanding than I did. Back then I used to get Sunday afternoon to sew as we ran our own business. Fast always seemed better for me but seams never matched and points what points. My friend and I still sew together even though we live in different parts of our State, the internet allows us to share what we are doing and then there is the weekly phone calls. We have been patchwork buddies for almost 25 years.

I started Ode to my Mom last year and with one of the first blocks I did I told myself: oh well, you should learn how to sew! You did a miserable job And I keep telling myself the same over and over again and still it's fun to make blocks. Somehow in the end all seems to come together and (sometimes with some stretching) matches up!
