I'm sorry to let you all down but I'm not visiting my DDIL on Monday. My DS will of course and I'll ask him to take pictures.

My DDIL doesn't do any knitting, she only does counted cross stitching once or twice a year She has a book and as she's a very slow reader (dyslexia) that's enough for the next two weeks!
She told me her neighbour is a very nice woman and they chat a lot. That lady is leaving next Wednesday

Mirabelle, do you have a picture of your embroidered quilt labels? I would love to see them!

I better get my behind in gear, it's 9.15 am here and I still have a lot to do before leaving for the hospital!


QNS: how do you keep those pockets from falling on the floor? I understand how do make them but that's the part I don't get.

7 years ago my DNiece was pregnant & they said it was a girl. We had a biggggg girl shower. DSis had embroidered a quilt top w/the girl's name on it. Well ya'll have already guessed it. In April we were told it was a boy & my Great DNephew was born in May. (At least the quilt top hadn't been quilted yet.) Well my DSis needed me ta help her fix it for her other DGSon, that is on the way. I made applique hearts ta cover the name. DSis spent all day redoin' the pink embroidery ta orange & green. This evenin' I top stitched the hearts on & we got it sandwiched. She will hand quilt around the Bear & Hearts (there are other hearts on it also) & when I git back from OKC I'll machine quilt the radiatin' lines. We also used spray bastin' on a fleece throw that she will tie for her grandson. She had never heard o' spray bastin' & thought that applique was way too hard. She's very pleased. She doesn't have a job right now but her new DGSon will have a very nice quilt from her.
She then helped me reorganize my cuttin' table, that had become a big pile o' projects! She left about 15 min.s ago. (It's about 3:00am here, my normal bed time.)

Anael I sent you an e-mail a few days ago, did you get it. I just tried to take a photo of my labels and my camera is doing weird stuff, it is as if it is taking 2 photos at once and overlaying them. Will try again tomorrow.

DublB ... YIKES! hope you sleep in today. What a lot of work to transform that quilt! When do you leave with DH?

Anael, the pockets are sewn to the one side in the middle of the half lower and thirds on top, triple stitched...the ends and sides are sewn with right side to right side together, sewing on the wrong side, front and backing, with a slot not sewn on one side in the middle which allows you to turn the wrong side to the right side...the bottom and sides of the pockets are caught in the seam, thus holding items in the pockets. The photo shown has only the one layer without the backing on it yet. First have to get the pockets placed and sewn down in their divisions, then add the backing which secures the sides and bottom of the pockets. Hope this explanation helps to picture it better. Dh was made to his wishes, they can be smaller in width, but must measure across the bed under the pillow, top of first pockets should be even with the top of the mattress of the bed; then you can add as many pockets as you wish going down to the floor or comfortable height to reach from the bed when you are lying in it. So the measurements can vary....

Very neat for those wearing glasses or like to read at night in bed...keeps them handy and easy to find when they get up in the morning.

Quilte, very seldom to I keep a project or anything a secret from dh....unless its a FART trip on how much I did buy!!! I don't hide it, but I don't have a show and tell, either. He calls my quilt room a hobby room and tends to put it down until he needs something, and that has to come before anything else....guess I have spoiled him too much over the 47 years of marriage. One day at a time.

QNSue .... Good for you! The two of you have worked well together for many years ... and hopefully many more to come! I *think* the confusion Anael had (and I do too) ... as to how the assembled pockets are held in place on the bed. If it's to a pillow, it'd never work for me ... I move my pillow around, depending on how comfortable or restless I am. So do you do a set for the other side of the bed, to counter balance? Or do you run it between the mattress and box springs to hold it in place? I think it's a spectacular thing to have and would be SO handy for many.

Anael ... perhaps DDIL could use one this next while? However, I would suspect the hospitals here would never allow them, for fear they'd catch in the bed mechanisms. Or that they'd be unsanitary and such! Sadly sometimes hospitals and care facilities miss out on what could make a patient's stay more comforting in their provision of care!

QuilE, they are much like a foot quilt, only no batting; it goes underneath the pillow, and hangs over both sides of the bed so it is balanced. Although some put a safety pin through it and the sheet to hold it in place, I made mine out of flannel which clings to his flannel sheets. Because it is balanced on both sides, it really does not move very much at all. Size and measurements depend upon the mattress size:twin, single, double, queen or king. How many rows of pockets, the width and depth of them...usually at least two rows of pockets, the top ones are for smaller items,like glasses, cell phone; the second for any paperback book, etc. newspaper folded up...
