Welcome Baaaaaaaaack MiraB!!

Anael ... the snuggle is cute, with the teddy in it ... if it can't go to the hospital, maybe DGS1 would like to pretend caring for his DS/DB until they can use it. The Teddy is sure to win him! Here's sending good thoughts, wishes and prayers for Isa to get over this hurdle ... and for Bram to continue on. Maybe he was restless, thinking of his DSis?

DDamsel ... Me? bring out your wicked side? Oh no, it is you that is leading moi down the wrong trails!! I was looking at the pattern today and starting to think of fabrics. I think the pincushion will be my first attempt. The dressform just looks too BIG for me! Stay tuned ... this weekend I hope to quilt the baby quilt and the Sulky (we've got to find a better name for it!) might be something to do for breaks in the quilting.

All ... I got the baby quilt sandwiched today and my plan is to quilt it this weekend. Name possibilities ... 1. Baby Irish, 2. the Pink 3. Bear-ly Pink. What do you all think?

CarrieM ... is that all hand embroidery over the crazy quilt blocks? WOW! What an honour to have been asked to work on it, as it looks very old to me. Tieing the quilt is not hard. Chances are that you would tie on the corners of the blocks, unless they are very large. How old do you think the quilt would be? I think you'd ruin the look of the embroidery if you tried to quilt SITD over the embroidery. What about a backing in an old fashioned all over rose pattern?

JanRN .... stunning! Like the touch of your initials ... and of course, your trademark peace sign! And to think you HATED PPing and no way you were going to do it; that black was your ONLY colour; and you did not do yellow!! Look at the masterpiece you created with those! And ... I just saw your Rosie, and another outstanding quilt ... again breaking the JanRN "rules"!

QNSue ... will you deliver PC when you pick up FWS? I'm trying to be patient as I wait to see it "all together", before LAQ.

JeanieG ... likewise, patiently waiting for Easy Street's debut. And then onwards to your PC finale!

Jan---your quilt is really pretty! I like the little blocks in the borders and your initials too. Great balance of colors.

I made some good progress on my PC blocks today (for my "blue" quilt...the one w/blue sashings). I have the center all squared up, plus all but 7 of the blocks sashed....here are a couple pictures: http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...ml#post5828610

I talked to the coach at practice tonight and he said go with the red for the backing, cotton batting and tie it. I am going to try to find a red embroidery thread to match too. Thanks for all the comments. He is pretty excited to have it done. I have some mending to do before actually layering. I am thinking I will start it in March or April. This month is for my PC quilts.

QE--you posted while I was typing...yes all the embroidery is done by hand. I have no idea how old it is. I am taking it to work tomorrow to see if anyone there has any thoughts.

Rest easy little ones--lots of good folk to care for you!
Fantastic Jan. We are all so proud of you. First one done and it's a beauty! I love those corner blocks! Oh and nag away at us who are eating your dust. I know I will need cheering all the way to the finish line for sure.
Carrie my cousin uses 3 strands of embroidery floss and making an X through the layers; threads the needle through the batting layer about a hand width away; comes up and makes another X. Continues across the quilt until it is done. There is no telltale tie as in tying a quilt. It might be just the stitch for this beautiful crazy quilt.
Here's a link:

This one doesn't make an "X"

I just googled tying quilts with an "X" .

Problems, problems, and problems. Trying to get PC put together, doing the slashing; discovering I don't have enough fabric for the yellow slashing. 35 blocks to do. Good news is I think I can get more yellow fusion on Monday at the QS...that has the FWQ. No, I cannot afford their prices on the PC quilt...see what they did on the FWQ first. The RK fusion fabric frays so terribly...need 'stop fray' from JoAnn's or light backing fused on the fabric...don't really want to do either thing. Really enjoying seeing the PC quilts finished...the challenge is on!!

Will post pictures of the FWQ Monday evening, I hope.

CarrieM ... Great start on your February project! The sky blue is a grand choice.
Re tying ... the way I was taught by the LQS when I tied a quilt was much the same as OKSGlad mentioned ... X-on each tying spot. Then continue on to another spot ... depending on your spacings, you may want to skip the spot. The idea is that you stitch the whole quilt, then cut the threads between and do the actualy tying. We used all 6 strands of the embroidery thread. Gives a nice lustre, and hard to break when tying tight.

QNSue ... Oh dear! I'll be hoping that you can get the same fabric. Maybe phone them and ask ... and if not, then start the websearch? If your fabric is very loose and frays too easily ... use a Best Press or spray starch. That'll help give it a little more substance, plus I've discovered there's very little fraying when I put a quilt together. I like clean backs before it gets quilted ... so it makes for a lot less of that clean up! Good idea, don't take the PC til you see what you think about the FWS finish.

For clarification: The method I have linked to one does not cut the threads. They stay inside the quilt. Gnight. Off tomorrow on a road trip.

Isn't it great how we can all share what we know & how we do things?
QE - how did ya do the bastin' o' the baby quilt & how did it go?

Thanks QNS & OK for all the info about tyein' quilts.

I'm pretty tired tanight.
I've spent most o' taday pressin' fabric for my DNiece's baby. I'm makin' WOF square blankets. I fold the edges twice & do a decorative stitch. Sounds easy. First I gotta git 'em square, then the edges wont stay folded while I sew. So I use........glue. I've been makin' these blankets for baby's in the family for years, (over 20 years anyway.) Well taday I had an ah-aw moment. Those corners are thick & hard ta sew through. 6 layers. It just occurred ta me that I can cut 2 sm squares out o' the corners & make it 4 layers. Yikes! Where has my brain been all this time. Well I'm almost finished so I had better git back at it. I'll sew 'em tamarrow at the "sit & sew" hosted at the Quiltin' Patch.

Just catching up on the news.
I am too tired to answer anyone at the moment. Drive home was horrid, should take me about an hour but took an hour and 40 minutes, slow drivers drive me crazy...

Anael I hope Bram and Isa are settling down, showed DD the photos today and she raided her stash for flannel. Will wash and tumble dry tomorrow and post on Monday

I just talked to my DS. The news on Bram is not good. He had a rough night and the ventilator is back on max. They lost the margin in treatment so when something happens now there's hardly anything they can do for him.
Isa had a quiet night, she's responding to the antibiotics!

I have to take my kitty to the vet this morning. She's vomitting since yesterday morning so the vet wants to see her.
I will be back here tonight, this afternoon we're going to the hospital.
