Have sewn the backing for the Once Upon A Time quilt, thinking about asking the LA'er to baste it for me??? And just cause I didn't have enough ufo's to think about, I have started sewing a Hidden Wells quilt for DD and her BF for Christmas. Have all the strips sewn together, now for the fun part of cutting them into X's. Didn't purchase any fabric for it either, imagine that having fabric in the cupboard To the bat cave Robin

Thanks JeanieG, I have the added advantage of not having a husband to look after for a week at a time he will be home tomorrow and then my sewing time is seriously curbed..at least for a week

I spoke to the LA'er tonight and she can't baste my quilt, don't get her reasoning, she said the longest her stitch length is 7 sts to the inch. I didn't like to tell her she has to take it out of the computer mode and baste is freehand. I have basted a quilt before at the LQS and she has the same machine. I just don't have time to spend at the LQS. Won't get to it till the weekend I have a busy three days ahead of me.

Alas, Mirabelle, I can see 'you' in the town meeting hall with tables together, basting your quilt together. One way or another you will get it basted.

Happy trails, Honchey, on your journey South. You know while the 'cat' is away, the 'mice' will play. Just one day South of your main residency must may a big difference in weather. We can tell the difference going an hour North or an hour South. Even to Unionville, some eleven miles West, there is a difference because a snow storm or rain will hit Unionville and we will never see a snowflake or drop of rain here. When I went into town down South in Texas one day, it was raining on the other side, West lanes, but not on the East lanes going in to Corpus. Weird.

Everyone stay 'upwind' of me; cannot shower or wash my hair until the doctor says I can, but its a small price to pay to see, so I will grin and bare it. Too bad smiley corner does not have a hand holding the nose closed to express this emotion. It has not been a week and I am getting very impatient....I want to read a newspaper, a book, or my cell phone numbers and contacts. But I can read the chatter here, and watch TV. And count my blessings. There is always a silver lining in every cloud, so I will search for that today...may you all be able to do the same.

We got 32 cm of snow on Saturday and Sunday. It was mild so the roads were melting from the bottom up so now we have fresh snow on ice and driving is awful. I took the twins home last night and I never knew when I stopped at a red light if I would actually stop, and then I wasn't sure if I could get going again on the ice. Nightmare of a trip especially going with the kids in the truck. I was glad to get home.

Beauty block, Janie; Ann did a good job. Lovely set of blocks in your collection. I know how you felt driving on ice with kids in the car. Been there and done that too many times in raising our children. Love the State of Illinois who said in their traffic laws, "Do not start through an intersection at a stop light until the area is clear of traffic". And My boss who said, "I don't care how late you are getting to work, just get here in one piece!". And the day in the deep snow fall when the police ordered everyone off the road, and a few idiots had to try to drive around and see the scenic snow sites. They got a ticket.

After Christmas going back to Illinois from Iowa down the interstate and seeing 18 wheelers in the ditch and having the kids in the pickup cab with us, trying to get back home, holding our breath and fingers crossed, to get back home in one piece...and snow coming down quick, fast and thick. Yes, even after we retired, and had visited his Father in Cedar Rapids, snow storm blew in closing all roads...discovering interstate30 was still open, unlike interstate 80 closed, we made a dash for home and quickly discovered ice under the snow. So DH put the 4 x 4 into gear and we crept homeward at less than 30 miles per hour two thirds of the way home, seeing cars and pickups stuck in the snow and ditches. Seen a snow plow stuck in the snow. Often there was just one lane to drive in, instead of the whole two lanes. Angels were guiding us that day, too.

Oh Janie and Honchey - I just love that block! WOW!!!

You guys talking about snow just blows me away. The last time it snowed here was in 1949, when I was 7 years old (you realize I live on the California coast). I was so excited. I remember my mom letting me stay home from school to play in the snow! Of course, I did not have any snow type clothing, so I did not stay outside long.

My family used to take a yearly trip "To the Snow"!!!!! We drove 4 hours and would spend Presidents Weekend at a cabin. Such fun times, when our kids were teenagers! Actually we can see the snow (which is about 2 hours away)on the mountains from our town. But no snow here in all these years!

I just love to sit in a cabin and watch the snow coming down. And it such fun to wake up in the morning and see how much has accumulated on the porch railing overnight. Those were very special times, as we did not have to "live" in the snow, just so enjoyed visiting it once a year.

Snow means moisture in the soil, and oh, how we need that here. Very dry; inspite of a small rain last two days. Hope Anne arrived safely in NC.

I'm back!!! I tried to get through all the posts and guess what? Gram was home an hour and called to run a kid pickup! Oh back to the usual of life at home. Did take a gander at all the posts but too much to comment on right now. Glad to hear everything's brighter for QNS. Two days on the road--three days of lots of activity--two days on the road again I'm bushed. Logged over 2200 miles of driving. Whew. Night all.
