brrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
What else is there to say?
OK ... some trivia ... it's the coldest winter in 18 years!

QNSue and JeanieG ... thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind if I have problems again. I put on my green 4-H hat and stumbled along in "Learn To Do By Doing" mode, and have a draft ready for a meeting tomorrow.

JeanieG ... thanks re the tulips matched!

DublB ... sounds like you are having some fun playtime! Gosh, I would sure like your cold weather!!

GGal ... not much hunkering down here til Friday! We didn't get much of a storm this time, just the ccccccccold! When I got up this morning it was -26C and while I was gone it warmed up to -18C ... warm? Heat wave coming thru on Saturday as it will be -9C Yes, BH's pink and chocolate is amazing!

Honchey ... YIKES! for all that snow. Good for you for hiring to have it dealt with. My "adopted" sister has one for each level in her home and loves them! She doesn't sew, but it does have to deal with dog hair! I've wondered about one for my sewing room too. Careful "driving" on that chair while vacuuming!!!!

And ............ the most important news ............. I got mail today!
Thank you so much DDamsel for your pretty tulip to add to the collection. I really do like it and am quite drawn to the background fabric for its subtle touch of colour on the white.

The pattern is Tulip Nine Patch from QuiltersCache.
I am already imagining it as a full quilt of tulips in different colours!
Or perhaps the blocks made smaller for a spring topper or wall hanging?

Hi everyone
Well DH left for work yesterday and I have been doing not much of anything until today when I decided to tackle the kaleidoscope quilt, basted it after lunch and then spent a couple of hours drawing designs. This is what I came up with, not very original but I like it. Haven't decided what to do in the Kaleido blocks yet.

DH rang tonight to ask me what I was doing tomorrow afternoon, told him quilting DD's quilt, he said "that's not a good idea, I've got a better idea. Come to the airport and pick me up" aarrrgghhhhh Apparently he was going to take this shift off but couldn't as the other supervisor was going to be away, now that supervisor has decided not to take leave so DH decided that he was going off site for the week. They are always going mad at him for the amount of leave he has but when you only work 6 months of the year, it seems silly to take another 7 weeks off... SO tomorrow I am driving to the airport

Pssstttt I hope all my parcels arrive tomorrow morning

Good morning to all (well afternoon and evening to a couple of you).

Mirabelle--very pretty quilting....funny you say "not very original", I was thinking "I wish I could do that!". So when you draw it on do you do it freehand or use a stencil? I'm planning to do QAYG on the 50 Stars quilt and actually draw on designs to follow (instead of just SITD/echoing). I'm looking forward to the challenge.

D_D--great MB for QE!

QE very nice collection.

I have to take DD to a dr appt this morning...she has a cough that won't go away. It is pretty chilly here this morning. Schools are delayed/canceled all over the area. I might go stare at things in the clubhouse today...after all the running yesterday I definitely won't be trying to sew.

DD that's a beautiful block you made for QE. I don't work with a lot of pastels, always thought they were sort of boring. QE that quilt will be awesome--anything but boring.

Mirab, I like that quilting design. I think it will add a lot of movement to your quilt which has a lot of straight lines and angles. It's balanced and it won't make your quilt look "over quilted" like so many I've seen lately.

Carrie, how's the shoulder? This cold weather is killing mine. And I've been doing so much paper piecing lately that all the trimming with the rotary cutter has caused my thumb and index finger to ache. Thank goodness for Advil.

I've been quilting my MBs; doing QAYG on them. I can't wait to see it all together and I think of each and everyone of you as I quilt them.

Have a great day, ladies, be careful if you have to go out--very cold & icy & snowy here. Do something you love.

QuiltE, I think all of us in the cold belt knew without the reminder of the record in the last twenty years! Dones not compare with 1960-61 year yet when it stayed below zero for two weeks in January...dipping down to fifty below one morning, generally was 25-30 below zero. Beautiful MB from D_D. Its good to figure things out for yourself, but no penalties in asking for help! Its how we all learn and apply our knowledge, and pass it on to others.

Love the quilting design, Mirabelle. Nice of DS to think of his Mother as a Car Service to the Air Port; maybe he will bring back some fabric for her as a favor??? Techs need a break every now and then...but often end up in front of computers.

Carrie, take care and get some rest for yourself. Hope DD is feeling better; ours always felt better the day we took them to the doctors.

At minus four this morning, I would say its cold here. Going to tackle Arizona this morning; creating and cutting out templates for the pp and it is going to go together. Yes!!

DH was a Math/Science/Computer teacher; he told me we were missing an older hen duck; I counted them yesterday and all five older ducks were there. He finally counted to five himself and agreed they were all there!

DD...what a beautiful block for QuiltE!
honchey...hope that the weather cooperates for your trip south.
i cancelled going to a Play Day at the LQS today because of the cold. It's now 7 degrees and about as warm as it's supposed to be. So I'm playing in my sewing room. My QB and I started a quilt from McCalls last issue that we said we would work on when we were at Play Day. She's there so we're doing it long distance "together" Star blocks today with 14 sets of flying geese. I thought they migrated!!! I'm using Eleanor Burns method and they are coming out like they should....not wonky....but all of the trimming gets tedious. Half done. Back to the playing.....hope the rest of you find something fun to do....stay warm and safe!

Home again and glad for that! Thermometer in van said -14...that doesn't include wind chill. DD just has a bacterial infection, got antibiotics so hopefully she will be feeling better soon.

Jan--the dry needling seemed to have loosened things up in my shoulder so it isn't feeling too bad. My elbow is pretty sore today though after all the errands yesterday and hurrying in and out of the van. Bending or straightening too far/for too long causes me to say "ow"...thankfully it doesn't last too long though. Sorry your shoulder is acting up!!

Hope everyone can stay warm the next couple of days! Maybe we'll have lots of pictures to see soon of Jan goals.

QuiltE what a beautiful collection of blocks you have, do you have a plan on putting them together ????

Thank you everyone for the compliments, I will share how I made and sewed this design. I have had the Infinite Feather Template for a number of years but have never used it (couldn't figure out how it worked) and yesterday had that aha moment..(only after reading the instructions) that seems to work when all else fails

So I drew up the size of the block I needed and drew the circle and using the template drew the feathers in. This took a couple of attempts to get the right number of feathers to fit the circle. So when I was happy with it I cut the centre out and using this paper template I drew the circle onto my block and with a couple of placement markers for angles I drew in the feathers using the stencil. The centre feathers are sewn freehand, I just marked the centre point and the outside echo is also freehand.

I was going to use the paper template and had punched holes in it but soon realised that it would not last for 15 blocks. I have quilted 4 blocks but have had to unpick 2 as I was not happy with my thread choice, I chose a darker thread called Old Gold as I wanted to be able to see the design.

Have a great day everyone and stay safe with your horrid weather, it is 8.30 in the morning here and I am perspiring already. Humidity is around 80% as we had overnight rain.
