DDamsel ... How exciting to gain those new machines for your fleet!! What a nice tribute to your friend, that two of her friends have now connected in this way. No doubt, she is watching over the two of you. I'm proud of you and your DH for accepting some help to get you thru your troubled times.

CarrieM ... What a nice story and I'm sure that "this mom" as you called her is proud of all your progress. And look how your current project, pulls many of the same colours! That's a neat star in the outer border. Now you have me curious as to what the "dancing piano key" design will be.

JanRN ... you'll just have to find somewhere else to go for a FART! Interesting fact ... a bunch of quilters from not far from here are off on a bus trip next week. I have no clue where they are going. The only two places I have heard are Pittsburgh PA and Corning NY. So who knows? They might be at some of your favourite fabric places!!

I've been getting snippets of time lately for sewing ... but no long spells.
The good news is that I am getting those snippets, as I get some work done. However, it means I do not get to work at the bigger more time consuming ones. Yes, I could, but I just don;t like that, unless I can get a good start first. Then, I can finish it off in the smaller time bits. So, Yes, I am a little frustrated that the FFC is not done ........ yet! Perhaps in May?

Speaking of which ... here's my
Booster Club Report for April!!

3. FFC ... assemble backing. Sandwich, quilt and bind to a finish. .It is sandwiched and has been waiting for those bigger time allowances!
4. Plan my DJ ... I am not doing the traditional layout, so need to make my decisions, to know what I am working towards. I've been playing with it, but can't make the triangles work into what I want. Dilemma! I want the triangles, but do not want the conventional layout. Anyone with any bright ideas on this?
5. Finish PPd Miss Kitty. .Yes!!!!!!! and she purrrrrs away in my kitchen!!
May is going to be a busy month, and I will be out of town quite a bit (so if you think I have gone AWOL, you already know why?!)

So ... Maybe in May????
1. FMQ and Finish FFC.
2. 13 more DJs
3. May Theme BOM.
4. Sand and refinish spare quilting table.

I already know I have stretched this list ... so, I am not going to be disappointed if I don't get it all done!! These last few months have sure reminded me how good it is to put it out there ... and I am more likely to achieve it.\

So thank you, Boosters, one and all ... for doing your part to keep me on task ... instead of totally goofing off!

WooHoo that time again to fess up

My April goals were to stay up to date with ALL of my BOM/W's
Darkness border blocks
Quilt Spike
Finish my next ABC quilt
I also made an African animal quilt from fabric that did not make it into DG's quilt
I also pulled out my box of Bonnie Hunters Wild and Goosey blocks and put together the first quarter of the quilt.
Plus the 2 kids quilts DD and I made last weekend
So a busy month for me

I have pondered my May goals for the last week and decided that this is what I would like to accomplish this month.

1. Stay up to date with Bom/W's (must work on Jane a little more)
2. Quilt and bind my Kaleidoscope quilt (next Thursday at LQS)
3. Finish the blocks for Darkness border and start basting the sections ready for quilting
4. Put 2 rows of Wild and Goosey together to start the next quarter
5. Quilt 2 charity quilts.

I can't remember if I had shown you this African quilt or Wild and Goosey so here they are. My container of tiny scraps is not going down and just for fun I started a String Quilt, they breed in my cupboard also.
If anyone has any suggestions for using up scraps I am all ears

Beautiful quilts Mirabelle. I love the way you are using up your scraps. The string quilt is wonderful with the checked fabric, it really ties everything together!

Oh dear friends--I love all the stories you have been telling. I am amazed at all the professional seamstresses in the group, those who were influenced by 4-H or older family members, and how much other crafts have influenced us. I used to knit, crochet, cross stitch, etc, but once I fell in love with quilting I have abandoned those crafts. I do have a EB quilt cut ready to piece--her UGRRoad quilt. Although I don't subscribe to her therory--check with BBrackman on historical clarification--I figure it is a way for me to commemorate the rumor that the old house was a UGRR station. I loved the teddy bears, mirabelle...soft sculpture never an acquired skill for me. The 2 "wild" quilts are great, but really like the checkerboard strip in the scrap quilt. What fun to see how your quilting has grown Carrie.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Thanks QE for getting us started on our reminiscing.

It's taking me a bit to get caught up. It's been a busy week with work and family matters--have had short nights due to both... I'd rather not say why, but I really need a group...not because of what's happening to me, but what is happening with an extended family member. Thanks.

My earliest memory of anyone sewing is of my dear Swedish GF, white head bent over his treadle sewing machine stitching away in the basement of their retirement house in town. His father was a tailor and GF had apprenticed to be one, too, but he didn't like being inside so began an apprenticeship working with horses in an stage coach inn--this was end of the last century mind you. Later he and his brother emigrated to USA in search of a better life as western Sweden was dividing land parcels into ever smaller sizes limiting opportunities.
Being #3 daughter I was influenced by a mother and 2 sisters who sewed clothing and as a 9yo began 4-H. My first project--an apron. Although didn't sew consistently through my teen years, I took Home Ec and chose to make a wool coat my Sr. year. I started sewing for our #1 DD when she was about a year old. KWIK SEW patterns and knit fabrics were coming onto the market and I started sewing t-shirts, shorts etc for our growing family. By the time the 3rd child came along I purchased a Viking sewing machine with an overlock stitch and wow I could whip up shirts from just a bit of fabric in no time--often making shirts with one color sleeves and differing front and back. I even made my boys their briefs and later boxers. My kids were on the thin side and I couldn't find jeans to fit them--even the "slim" sizes weren't slim enough. KWIK SEW to the rescure with a great western jean pattern in a slim version--sized from a slim 4 to a 12. I can't tell you how many jeans I sewed--I'd reuse zippers from DH's worn jeans to save money. By the time DD was in 6th grade I had had jean making down to an art...even her BF was wondering what store she got her jeans from. I continued to sew for her and myself throughout high school and college--spoiling her because of the lined jackets that fit her. To this day she looks for quality construction in her clothes. Now sadly, it's much cheaper to buy than to make and sew special garments and PJ's for the grands. I am far from a "professional"
Now quilting--just before #1DS was born I made him a flannel double 4P quilt from old and new pieces of fabric--I think smallest squares were 2" cut--which I tied with yarn and used parts of an old blanket for filler. He wore it out.. Meanwhile DD moved into a big bed and I made a brick patterned quilt for her with red and yellow ginghams and calicos to coordinate with Holly Hobby curtains for her room. Again I tied it with a blanket for filler. Her DD has the quilt now.
Shortly afterwards I made a denim quilt for my cousin who lived with us (we were 26 at the time) his jr year in HS. He still has the quilt 35 years later. Between #3 and #4 child I began sewing machine applique items and selling them at craft shows etc. When I quit that gig I had left over fabric inventory so started piecing quilts in the early 90's for use at home. Gradually I added more fabric to my stash and well the rest is history. I've hand quilted one large quilt--long stitches and not very neat. The first machine quilted quilt I sewed 1/4" away from the pieces in the house blocks. And suffice it to say I've come along way since then!!

Will share my April progress or should I say lack of later.

MiraB ... Another incredibly stitching month for you ... with May being busy too! Your Wild and Goosey is incredible .. totally random scrappy? or do you do any planning? So nice to see the scrappy cornerstones. The string quilt is going to be a nice colourful one too. Almost makes your African quilt look pretty subdued!!

OKSGlad ... {{{HUGS}}} to you ... supporting others thru their challenges is hard, and you need a lot of support yourself in the end. I guess I never mentioned my 4-H sewing! Actually it was not a big contributor .... when we went to 4-H, we just had a few machines to use, so they would look at my sister and I and say, "Oh your Mother sews ...." and then pretty much ignore us and let those who did not have sewing Moms (or machines at home) do their sewing. Your sewing story is wonderful ... while I have made men's pants, I can hardly imagine making jeans (that fit!). I wish that I had learned more about tailoring. Most of my own sewing was self-taught, thanks to the 4-H fiasco. High School Home Ec was very basic ... again, because my Mom sewed, I had already made clothing, and was ahead of the class lessons. I didn't stick with it beyond the mandatory first yr. REading of your quilts with blanket battings, took me down memory lane for a bit, thinking of one we had in the family room on the farm. A special gift that a friend had made for us ... and filled with a wool blanket. Warmest quilt, and yet nice and cuddly in the summer too. Might just have to try that again sometime!!
