OKSGlad ... never a dull moment for you!! Are you on countdown to the wedding? Not long! What nice sites and sounds with all those orioles around. Of course, you have so much time for bird watching .... NOT!

CarrieM ... My goodness .... 15 hummers all at once. WOW!!!!!!! After reading OKSGlad's hummer/oriole update, it made me think .......by chance is your new feeder an oriole feeder? I know I have one for each, and they are very similar, and apparently, they know the difference!

JanRN ... that picture will come to life!

Anael ... Oh to be a kid!!!

Honchey ... any date set for your knee yet? Maybe start kitting things, to do during your recovery time?

Any suggestions on what causes skipped stitches when FMQing?
The needle goes down, but the two threads are not joining.
No, not because I am moving too fast.
(... otherwise I would not have seen how it is happening.)

Wednesday night I was FMQing and all was going great. When I stopped, I noted all my settings thinking I would just pick up with them and motor on last night. NOT!!!!!!! I fiddled a lot, tweaked the tension, even tried different stitch lengths. Did a lot of sample work, and tried on the real thing. Each time, all would be good ... then the skipping would start. I can accept the odd skip, but this was too frequent. A lot of frogging and whimpering!

Any help, would sure be appreciated!!!!!!

The Mama and kittens mock one: I did thread the needle yesterday afternoon and again this morning, but vision is still not 20/20, but better than completely blind...feeling good that I can see what I can. Eight more cat oaurs to be added to the mix and the two split into two wall hangings.

We are back from Phoenix today. It will take a while to catch up on all the happenings. Really cute quilt QNS! Talk with you all later. Still unpacking.

Very cute, QNS. My sister would love that pattern--she's always sending me pics of her cat doing "dumb cat" things. I love the bright fabric you're using.

QE, did you get your machine fixed? My Viking is not finicky but the Sweet 16 will skip stitches if there's the teeniest piece of lint or thread in the bobbin area. FMQ is not my area of expertise (to say the least) but check one more time for a stray thread. Good luck--I'm anxious to see your finished project (not nagging--encouraging LOL).

Welcome Back JeanieG ... Hope you had a good time!

Thanks JanRN ...
guess what? it is working wonderfully well again .... and I have no clue as to why!
I was totally lost and phoned the dealer. The good thing was that I was reassured that it's not like I am a newbie ... and I had done what both the shop owner and the mechanic suggested. This machine sure is clean (not sure how many times I have tried that tactic, plus needle changes and just plain fiddling with tension and the like.

One tip I did get from the tech was to switch back to a regular foot, and do some zigzag work, and straight stitching. His other suggestion was to leave it overnight!! I told him not funny as I had already tried that, last night! Anyway, once I did the regular and zigzag (and not much of it), I was almost going to leave it all for another day. Then thought, oh, give it a try ........... like magic, all was good! I called them back .... as I thought they should know that I don't just call when things are bad! The tech just said, that with all these highly computerized machines, it is more and more confusing and sometimes they just fix themselves. He's a great guy, but gee, I like logic!

Purrrrrrrfect Kitties, QNS ........ The two blacks work perfect for an interesting background. Does your new machine not have an auto-threader? That makes life so much easier.

And right now .... so long as it keeps working well, I'll accept the non-logic ... and use that tactic another time when I am about ready to pack it in!!!

QUiltE....my machine was skipping stitches but I though it was because I was crossing bulky seams, then it started doing it on two layers. I cleaned, I changed, I did every logical thing I could think of and then I remembered someone on QB saying that they ran dental floss through their tension wheels..I guess that's what they are called..as part of their cleaning process. Yup...it worked. I had the same problem starting a couple of days ago and the dental floss was the answer again. I guess my sewing just causes the dust to fly! I don't cover it when I'm not sewing and I know that that would probably help too. New flooring would be the best solution. The carpet in this house is close to 30 years old and my DH doesn't believe in shampooing it.

I've been lookin' for some for about 5 years for her.
Well I guess I'd better git ready ta take #1DSon ta the airport.

GGal ... thanks ... it's nice to know that someone else can truly relate! Like you, I knew that when it was skipping other than on the seams, it was something more than just needing a sharper needle. I've seen it mentioned about the dental floss and tension wheels too ... but honestly, I do not understand where that would be? I don't cover my machine either. The tech is always saying I should vacuum it, for a good cleaning, but til I find a used vacuum to keep under the corner of my sewing table, that isn't going to happen!

QuiltE, thanks for the info! I will try to zig zag and straight stitching too as my Bernina skipps stitches too
I didn't know about the dental floss either, there might be a video on youtube. Will have a look.

QNS, your kitties are lovely!
