MMMMmmmm I just looooove Salmon! If DH asks me what him to cook I will usually say Salmon. Now he hates to cook Salmon so I probably get it about once or twice a year but I usually ask. I don't get my feelings hurt when he says no either. I know how he feels. We then have a real conversation about what we want to eat. I am just glad that he does all the cooking.

I don't know that I have ever had salmon. My husband won't eat it cooked but always orders it RAW when we go for sushi; he and the kids really like it that way.

I eat Salmon but it's not my favorite. I like the fish that hubby and son catch fresh out of the sea. On another note. when YOu guys say you can half a beef, are you talking about half a cow? good gravy, I could not tackle anything like that lol....I have no idea...the best thing I can can is jam and that's it.

I cook some pears yesterday and made pear sauce. I also make my apple sauce but dont' can them. I make about a quart and put in frig and eat on a daily basis with my plain yogurt, it takes the place of icecream that I have given up.

Back from the AQS show in Des Moines, Iowa. Just quilter 65 and I on this quick trip to see her quilt on display at the show...now if I can figure out how to download if from the smart phone to the computer...I did visit the Bloc Loc vendor and they were very helpful in what ones I really needed to stock up on. Two sizes of squares and two sizes of flying geese. Picked up three panels I can use in current list of UFOs, found some pale pink, and was ready to come home. Not as friendly or knowledgeable volunteers working today but they were friendly sort of...let me borrow a chair seat at a table while quilter 65 look around a bit and eves drop on comments on her quilt...Made it back in time for her to attend her DGS ball game. That timing was just fine with me, as I was worn out anyhow.

Bev, "her love language is gifts" is a quaint way to say it. :-) My mother was like that, and my sister is like that too. I can so identify with that concept.
Rosy, I canned 'pear sauce' too, was it last week? and got bored waiting for it to boil down and "round on the spoon," gave up waiting, and my pear sauce is pear syrup this year, to use on pancakes, I guess. :-p
QNS, the AQS show! That's on my to-do list. I've never been to a quilt show yet.

Roseyf, canning a half of beef is what we did. It was corn fed and about 2 years old and we canned 75 quarts of meat. The processing of each canner was for 90 minutes at 15 lbs. It was quite a job, but oh so good with noodles and mashed potatoes.

GrannyQ, we cut up two beef steers every year and four hogs when we were young. I still have the meat saw our DGP used. Now we get it from a neighbor that feds out his steers (mostly) for two years and we buy a quarter or half from him. He takes it to the butcher shop, and we tell them how we want it cut up and wrapped. They hang it for 8 to 10 days before they cut it up. To can a whole half of meat would take a lot of time.

No, I would never qualify for a quilt show to enter anything into it, but love to see how the talented populous make lovel quilts, like quilter 65 does. Its how it strikes the judges of the show and how they view it...

That canned beef sure sound wonderful but I know it oodles of work and hard work it is.

Givio, anytime your pears or whatever need some thickening...I use the Pomona, it works great. I am so used to making the pear, apple or peach sauce that mine come out just right. I put very little water as I want it to be thick, I add a tiny bit of brown sugar and a tbl of butter and that's it.

NS, do you also freeze the beef? and how long can it keep frozen? We use to get deer meat for our hunter friends but only hubby and son would eat. I just can't eat the Bambi, just can't do it or a rabbit for that matter.
