carriem, In her old age, my husband's little dog has become nearly blind and can't hear well. She only sleeps all day. He took a new puppy... But the old dog still is here, and now we have three, because I have my dog too. Two dogs is enough for me. I don't know why we have three...

I very much enjoy the patterns of the fabric that is Civil War reproductions. Getting some someday is on my to-do list. What!!?? Your first baby quilt!!

Yes, it will be my first baby quilt. I don't know if my son and daughter in law will ever have any children. My son is 43. They spoke before of adoption, but I think they worry about the economy. When I was little people just had their families, and they made it somehow. I had just the right fabric for this baby quilt, and I love to hand embroider. I had a lot of embroidery thread that was mom's. This nurse we have known for a long time, and she is young so when I heard she was going to have another one I waited to see what she was going to have. So it's for a little girl. The little girl is here.

I think too I will later keep my eyes open for civil war fabrics to collect a piece here and there, and later make one.

I have been through that too with dogs. We had one dog for about 10 years our little Buddy. I am surprised he lived that long, because about 5 years ago he wondered off the wrong way, and was shot by someone. We didn't see him for 2 weeks, and I thought we would never see him again. It was right before one Christmas. We both prayed to see him again, but my husband really prayed. One night I hears something and went out on the front porch and seen him struggling walking against the front of the house. My husband picked him up, and took him to the vet. The vet said he didn't know how he was alive, because after an x-ray it showed all this buck shot or whatever you call it in his head. It left him blind, and the vet gave us meds for his pain, and inflammation, with special salve to rub in his eyes. Later he learned his way around everything and went on for more years until this past year, and became suddenly so sick, and he died in my arms. The vet said it had to be God why he was still here. back then.

Oh what a sad story about your little Buddy, Susan. People are so cruel. It breaks my heart. He was lucky to have you and your husband to come home to.

We lost a beloved dog in a similar way. Our Sophie... a pointer. Someone got mad at my husband so they picked her up while she was out on a bathroom run and "relocated" her several miles away. During the time period when we were searching for her, the people where she was hanging around got tired of her and shot her! They have no idea what a treasure she was to us. I lost part of my heart that day. I still cry thinking about her.

JuneBilly I am so looking forward to seeing your baby quilt. I make quilts for the babies that they can drag around for years.
Carrie we are having to treat our oldest dog for arthritis. It was keeping her fomr the things she loved but w/this RX she is doing so much better. We didn't take her to Brady the last trip nor this one. These trips sre so short & the pain she would have gone through would have been cruel. She is so much better so we will bring the dogs again soon. When she goes the younger dog is just gonna go into mourning. We will have to get another dog much sooner than we will want to as she will need the company.

My goodness, you both have quite some stories about your dogs! When I lived in the country we had a cat that was very loving. One day he turned up missing and we thought maybe he had been run over on the road (55 MPH), or something like that. We just couldn't find him. Then about a year later he reappeared. He was drooling, so I took him to the vet. After his examination, the vet said what caused it was a hole that went clear through his tongue, in the top and out the bottom of it. We could only wonder how it had happened to him. He escaped something, and he loved us enough to get back home.

That's wonderful that he finally found his way back home. The hole in his tongue sounds as tho it may have come from an animal bite.

We get so attached to our dear pets, don't we?

Isn't it amazing how our beloved pets will do their best to make their way home to us if they can.

Sewbizgirl that is terrible about your precious dog. Some people have so little respect for these precious babies. They are family to all of us.

I watch these tv shows where they show how many of them have risk their own lives to save those they love.
Oh and that movie 'Hachi.' I guess that's how you spell it, but the first time I watched that show I cried and cried. It was based on a true story. If you haven't seen this movie, and have Kleenex on hand, this dog story you might want to find and watch it.

As far as I know, you have to subscribe to each thread individually. If you find a way to subscribe to all, let us know! It would be so much simpler.

I think when you comment or subscribe on a thread it will show up in a daily email sent to you from the "Board" it comes as a "notification", then you would click on it and it will bring up the thread so you can see what's "going on" in that thread... I keep the current thread on my favorites toolbar so I can go back to it whenever I choose to..
