Default Harriet's Journey BOM

Would you like to join me in making the blocks from Jennifer Chiaverini's new quilt book called Harriet's Journey ? I hope this is allowed for me to post this here ?

I live in the UK and love making Sampler quilts. I have already made Sylvia's Bridal Sampler and The Loyal Union Sampler and also Dear Jane by Brenda Papadakis.

You will need to buy the book to be able to join in and participants are not permitted to share copies of the book's contents, there will be no patterns given and there is no sign-up required, but I would love to hear from you if you are interested.

A schedule still has to be worked out if there is going to be one! This is open for discussion, would you like more than one block a month ? Do you want an assignment or pick your own block or blocks.

Here you can ask questions, share tips and share photos of your blocks.

I look forward to starting this journey with you !

I'm up for a block of the month, although it will take us a long time to make this quilt if we only make one block a month! Maybe two or three blocks? We could maybe "assign" one block the same and make the other two or three "maker's choice"? I will be making mine scrappy but some may need some time to figure out what style, colors, etc. Whatever the group decides is fine with me!

DottyD, I would love to join in. I agree with having a schedule of blocks to do each month. It helps me keep working toward a goal. I do not have the book yet but I bookmarked it on Amazon a couple of weeks ago. I will suscribe to this thread so I can keep up with the conversation and participate after I get the book and I get my colors chosen. I may treat myself and acturally pick out civil war reproduction prints from a local quilt shop. Of course it will appears scrappy which would fit the style of quilt, but the fabrics would be chosen rather than "just what is in my stash". I have been stash diving for14 months now and it would feel so goo to wander a quilt shop and pick out something new that I like. (Yes, my stash has been shrinking and I will continue to shrink it for the next year too! )

Even if we are a small group, it is always encouraging to see what others are making and quilting.

DottyD, this sounds fun! I’d love to join in. Will we post a schedule of block to make each month? I am purchasing the book, so I’ll have the patterns. Just wondering how we will keep tabs on the progress? Do we share a picture of our block each month?

Hi Mkotch and WMUTeach, how nice to hear from you both ! That just adds to my excitement in starting this new project with like minded friends ! I have subscribed to this group ( I have NEVER done anything like this before so please tell me if I need to rectify anything ? ) To give you time to get the book and sort out your fabrics shall we start next month ? I thought perhaps if I give you 4 blocks a month and do that on the 2nd Saturday of each month with the first one on the 13th March.
I am making mine with Moda fabrics in Reds, Blues and Creams in a Winter theme !
I do hope others will join us and subscribe to the thread and in the meantime take care and happy hunting for your fabrics !!

Way to go DottyD! I am in, in, in. This will be great. Your start date sounds good. I'm going to work in my batiks again, since that is what I have the most. But lately I've been mixing it all together so I never know what I'll end up with. It's so funny how if I stick to colors I like, it all works.

Looks interesting - I'm also getting a bit tired of all the "scrappy" I've been dealing with, and I've wanted to do a sampler using only a few colors (but lots of shades) so maybe this could be it.

Smile Harriet's journey BOM

I would think doing 1 a week would be a good idea. Otherwise this will take several years to complete. I can promise that many will loose interest at that rate. They are small blocks and if there is some alternating between the easier and harder ones should keep people interested. Even at 1 a week - will take 2 years. I could be up for 2 a week as well. I am on the fence about assigning blocks because sometimes that is good and keeps us progressing and keeps people from by-passing the more difficult ones. Linda in Denver
