Wow, Sula, you brought the heat on this one! This was a huge challenge for me. I should have labeled my colors, (whoops) because the lavender was supposed to be the other "spokes" of the whirl.

I am a novice, novice quilter. This single block took me a good part of the afternoon. I almost didn't post this block, because I'm not happy about all the mistakes, but the whole point is to get better, right?

Hopefully we'll get a lot more blocks posted.. love seeing the colors you guys pick out.

Beautiful blocks, everyone. I'm glad you posted yours, frenchfryqueen, your colors are my favorite ones so far. I'm going to have to think about this one for a bit.

This was a challenging block for me but it did end up at exactly 12 ½" which is a miracle in itself. I mistakenly chose to use only three colours (hope this isn't the way my whole year will head) and so the finished design looks a little lop sided, but I will keep him for my January block anyway. Thanks sulabug & patricej, and thanks to other members who have also posted their blocks.

I finished my block today. It was I think the hardest one I'd ever done because the set-in seams was a new experience. I had given up on a block once due to set-in seams, and now I might be able to go back and actually complete it!

UGH, This took me forever! And I had to rip it out 4 times because it didn't look right. I think the pulling, stretched out the fabric, so I'll have to do this again, but at least I'm a pro now!

I had an "ooops Moment"

rather than ripping it out and doing that corner again,
I just redid it

I will save that corner for a new project, or to fill a spot in one that needs it!

I love this BOM, thanks Brat for telling me about it! Now I have oner more block to use in the boom swaps!

The quality of my picture is not very good! I have two calico's and a solid with a geometric design, new Camera! I love the blocks that are being posted, really a very different variety of blocks made.

Patrice, I love how you can just change them up and get different blocks, what a fun quilt that one will be!

i didn't throw this block together in a few minutes.
it took several hours, and i have been making quilts for about 15 years.
i checked my work at each step. if a seam wasn't straight, or if it wasn't the correct width, i picked it out and re-sewed it.
i also pressed as i went. that's a lot of trips to the ironing board, but checking each seam and pressing once i knew it was correct helped set me up for success on the next seam.

don't forget ... we are challenging ourselves to work on blocks we'd normally look at with fear and trepidation.
slow and steady; expect to make mistakes. just be willing to fix them. that's how we learn. (well ... that's usually the way I learn, anyway. LOL)
