So you can't really figure it out until you get to the pattern on the software and compare it to the finished block in your library? I guess you just toggle back and forth a little to figure it out...I thought there was some magic formula! Thanks for the info.

here's M5 so you can see what i'm talking about.

in the software the white square draw the eye in a diagonal movement to match the layout of my quilt layout.

in the actual block, that i didn't mirror, the blue squares are moving diagonally which doesn't have the desired effect i was looking for.

That is a great square to do a small quilt with...they would look awesome all together!

The visual helps quite a bit - thank you!

To know if a block needs to be mirror imaged you can try this.

Print out the block
write the fabric colors on the front to match the color scheme you desire
then copy those colors to the same pieces on the back.
You can then see if the block looks correct without being mirror imaged

Another way is to print out the colored version of your block (if you have your colors set up in the software program) and hold it up to a mirror. If it looks right in the mirror, then it needs to be mirror imaged.

I am lurking :D:D:D I am so enjoying following you all along in this journey!!! I just don't have the time right now to participate, so I am living it vicariously through all of you :D:D:D

thats the method i showed everyone but i think people are looking for a way just by looking at the block without having to color paper.

If you have the book, you could hold that up to the mirror, too.

Ahhhh..... I see what you mean now, thanks for the pictures! :-)

I had figured if I forget to mirror one I won't worry too much, it will still be a good block, just back to front. But it might be a little more than that.

Just talked to 'mistiliz' and her DH has the camera till Wed. She will post her DJ then. She also offered to assist us with any block if we have a problem. She has the software and book and everything just like we do. She has done 189 of them already and is working on her tris. Cool huh?!

I haven't printed out M 5 from my software yet, but looking at the book, if anyone is working from that on its own, the diagram won't make the block as it looks in the picture, so something to make a note of.
